Why is OVH Shared Hosting so Bad?
Just out of curiosity i tried their pro and performance... i can actually put both in the same bag, both are feature full, but with so many "soft" restrictions that will force you to move up and into vps/dedicated pretty quickly, its so weird it reminds me of dreamhost, their basic plan used to be super solid, you really needed to have a super popular sites/app to force you out, but when they brought all their updated packages they neutered their default plan..
So for the ovh pro plan, it runs great until it doesn't... feels like they have some program running around closing random processes or slowing down the connection for no apparent reason, or the isolation between accounts is pretty bad, high traffic no issues super fast, low traffic its timing out on login or some images fail to load...
On the performance (2vcores 4GB RAM) ... for me was even worst, seems like its still all shared, but you get less than on the pro plan or the "limits" kick in faster...
Finally the downtime wasn't bad, like 99.9% but the pings were all over the place, also as a sidenote their panel could use some work...
Please note that i tried for about 2/3 weeks on each account, the site uses mysql and php but isnt too performant it caches most as static, and yes i normally used cloudflare in front, but to test i used OVH dns (and no OVH cdn as well), and i know different sites/apps run better or worst in different platforms, just wondering why OVH with having so much extra resources can't do this right... or if its just my personal impression/bad luck...

Like you said most limit resources to get you to go higher. But I've never looked at OVH's limits. Could not be it at all. I tried loading their help website to check the technical limits and it took me like 3 minutes to load the page, then their website gave a 500 server error. Kind of ironic. Funny enough their starter plan limits you to 20 emails per hour... that by itself should make most people laugh. But if you're hard limited to 2 slower cores it could just be that.
Strange to hear about OVH shared hosting, but I think they are less bothered about sharing their servers.
@MikeA yeah, but i have a couple of their budget vps and they work great... it really feels like their shared hosting is a upselling afterthought....
@prasenjit1990 why not, if you don't test it, you never know if its good, shame that "try before you buy" is no feasible anymore with hosting...
