A general question about the Costs

vladimirleninvladimirlenin Member
edited March 2025 in General

Out of curiosity. I wanted to know:

1.) Howmuch does it cost for the hosting providers for 1Gbps & 10Gbps connection? Likewise howmuch does it Actually cost for the provider for each IPV4 address? Because depending on these parameters, we may get idea on how viable the web hosting business is.

2.) How are service providers able to offer generous amounts of bandwidth in Netherlands and Germany, to be specific in EU locations compared to that of US. How and why these differences occur and on the basis of what factors?

3.) 1 dedicated core vs 2v or 3v cores. Which one would you pickup for running a wordpress blog or in general. State with reasons why.

Actually, a communist VPS does not technically differ from a capitalist VPS. However, when you log in to the command line of a VPS, it might display the banner "Marx, Engels, and Lenin Forever!" :)

I thought the main difference was that a communist VPS host system shares a limited amount of resources equally amongst the different VPSes, while a capatilist host gives out a little bit of resources to all VPSes and asks an overpriced premium for additional.

    1. $0.05 to 0.10/Mbps
    2. $30/IP plus rir costs.

1- Pricing can really vary based on the provider and their infrastructure, but in general, the costs can be surprisingly low for the providers, it’s more about how they package and sell it to us.

2- The EU has a pretty solid and advanced network infrastructure, plus competition drives providers to offer better deals compared to the US.

3- I’d lean towards 2v cores for a WordPress blog.

    something lowend, please

  • re 3 - it probably depends on traffic. I used to run a simple WP recipes website on 1 core 1GB RAM machine, was working like a charm.

Bandwidth costs in major EU cities are low due to competition as well as a more liberal peering, further reducing costs.

they have some kind of "connetions", so they can buy cheap bandwidth, as low as the wholesale price like alibaba has

  • generally the answer is it depends
