...That's funny and weird. I was certain that status was for the live chat.

Go ahead and ticket and I'll take a look.

Guess what? After propagation completed (not instant apparently) and a logoff then log back on, it's now showing status on both domains. So that's normally only used for indicating whether users are online, thus available for chat via XMPP?

    Haha :) Glad it worked.

I'd assume it'd only be used for chat and maybe the video conf stuff (which might want the chat enabled as well). I don't see it being of much use for anything else.

  • OK, another odd one... The 2 domains hosted have "identical" DMARC records. I say "identical" in quotes because literally the only thing different is the RUA email address. Verified with multiple DMARC checkers (dmarcian, mxtoolbox, etc) they all report valid DMARC. Policy is set to "reject" and SPF / DKIM alignment to "strict" for both.

Now Google Postmaster tools seems to think otherwise... One of the domain checks all their compliance boxes, the other is reported as "Needs some work..." at DMARC. Obviously added the TXT record to prove ownership for both, thus they're both "Verified" so nothing is really different between them...

To make it even more confusing, I'm able to send emails from the "broken" domain and receive just fine to my Gmail inbox despite Google thinks it "needs DMARC work".

Anyone has any idea what am I missing?

    TIA

Slow, but progressing. I tried to save time ordering in Europe but that ended up blowing 1 1/2 months or more. I've placed an order and have everything arriving here in Vegas this week. It'll take me a day to get everything assmebled/installed, and then i'll pack and crate it.

Hopefully its picked up this week to go to NL, but we'll see.

I signed up for a 'CraneMail BF 100G' account yesterday, and had no problems setting up my initial domain. However, when adding subsequent domains I started having problems. I've raised a ticket but due to the time difference between ourselves (I'm in the UK) the domains are unusable for some time. Is there any source of decent documentation to help someone new to CraneMail? I'm not a newbie when it comes to administering email accounts, I've had a MXroute account for some years, and never encountered a problem I couldn't solve myself with them.

Just doing a follow up here. I've setup 2 domains on namecrane with their lifetime 100GB plan have have not had any issues (yet). I have uber light usages though on these 2 domains that i moved over.

Im tempted to move over a lifetime unlimited outlook service that I am legacy'd into which is significantly more busy.. I havent quite pulled the trigger yet though :) I am afraid of when outlook decides to give me the boot though. Namecrame may end up being that new home.

All in all happy with namecrane so far! Hope their lifetime matches up with mine

Thank you for your response. I've added the first domain and everything is working as hoped, however a problem after adding a domain alias.

The system generates a verification dns record, and then basically nothing else? I've added the verification record and mirrored the usual DNS records (DKIM, MX, SPF) from the first domain and I then can RECEIVE domain alias emails, but when I want to SEND from a domain alias I'm given only one email address option (postmaster@domainalias) that I don't want to use.

How can I create other domain alias email addresses?

The address 'postmaster' is the name of the mailbox that was set up with the first domain, I have not recreated that as a domain alias email address, because I cannot see how one creates them.

It sounds like you set up a domain alias rather than adding another account and assigning a new domain

On your services page does it say 2/X domains or is it 1/X domains?

Hi Ben, there is a 100GB lifetime plan? wasn't that for like 3 years 😅 [correct me if I am wrong but I remember namecrane has lifetime package starting from 250GB right?]

Not for public consumption, no. Users that took part (and actually helped) during the BETA period (start of November to launch) got a free 100G BF plan, a "lifetime plan" if you will.

We aren't going to sell small lifetime plans, please don't ask.

That's correct it was set up as a domain alias. The services page said 1 x domain at that time - I've since added another domain as a separate mailbox.

    So now it's 2 x domains, 1 x domain alias.

nc europe must come soon. it would also be great if the primary number of CM Lifetime 250G would be adapted to the logic of the plans from 500G! so for 250G also 25 primary domains would be possible. the current number is illogical, unfair and not inclusive. please reconsider your policy in this regard (or lower the price for 250G lifetime :) ). @Francisco @NameCrane

A crappy photo of some of the drives prepped for EU :)

I won't be able to get the crate out this week, but short of some big show stopper it should leave next week. NorthC said they'd have us ready for the 20th or so.

We're also working on a managed database product (basically the oldschool Offload SQL that BuyVM used to do) to help with some of the heavily loaded wordpress users.

  • @Francisco any way we could use custom (longer and more complex) IMAP / MAPI / WebDAV/ etc / passwords in Account - Settings rather than auto-generated ones? I'm paranoid and really value longer passwords over more complex ones. Alternately - does SmarterMail have an option to increase the default length from the current 16 to 20 or even 24?

    TIA

You can set password complexity requirements on a per domain basis. You'd do that under Domain Settings as the primary admin.

If you refer to the Domain Settings - Password Requirements, I'm afraid that only controls the users' (including primary admin) MAIN password which we have the option to choose when creating the accounts anyway. But it doesn't seem to affect IMAP / MAPI / WebDAV / etc / passwords' length found under Settings - Account - Two-Step Authentication. I increased the minimum length to 24 (from the default of 8) in Domain Settings and upon refreshing the IMAP password, it still stayed at 16 characters long
