Proton has been pushing to cater more for business, makes sense they'd partner with some companies like Porkhub.

Unsure too of my head but should be easy enough to find.

Just note that Proton has the somewhat misrepresentative habit of advertising the Black Friday savings based on what the by-the-month no-commitment cost would be, and not based on what the every day discount is for buying annual, even though the sale needs the same annual commitment. The Black Friday deals as a result look better than they are, when in reality you can take on a 12 month plan at any point and get pretty close to it. You’re still saving more but it’s less than they immediately make out.

On the plus side, there’s also less penalty for buying outside of Black Friday.

  • Checked their websites, this is 5.99 per month with annual payment, then 6.99 per month with annual payment thereafter. Proton' website has the same plan with 6.99 per month with annual payment, so through Porkbun, there's a $12 total saving, for the first year. Still not bad though.

    For the first year yes.

The plans listed is from Proton Business Plans, i think the benefits would be seemless integration from domain management & the first year deals.

Sadly, I am a Proton & Porkbun customer, did email Porkbun and ask, no deals xD

Yeah, protons deals are typically one time only for new signups, possibly with an exception if you increase your plan to a higher tier.

I believe they do have a history of grandfathering prices for current users and exempting them from any price increases.

This is correct. The BF deals are only for the first year, and it looks like the discounts that come as advertised in this Porkbun email (I also got it) are first year only, too.

    Yeah stated on the website.

    Mail Essentials Plan:

Billed annually, $71.88 for first year
    Renews at $83.88/year

I believe Proton Business plans have more custom domains. Though if you want that for a similar price as Unlimited, you sacrifice on drive/email space.

  • Even that I'm their long time customer, I really dislike the way proton treat their existing customers and I see they continue that behavior.

Pricing is fair but partnership is very strategic. Once the two have paired APIs matured then it could be a good attraction for those within Proton without a domain which in my opinion is the main objective rather than existing Porkbun users.

So far they have the combined of things I need so can stay for a while. I just started for like 3-4 months with them.

    I see.

Of course. But it's a bitter taste that every single promo they run, it's meant to new customers while the existing are screwed.

  • wdmgwdmg Member, LIR

I'm still on legacy plans (Visionary) with Proton, since 2020. I'm not a huge fan of their pricing model today, I pay $287.88/year for it. Can't complain.

Porkbun is a nice cheap registrar, wondering if any competible ones EU based?

  • Proton is overhyped. Doesnt mean they are not good but still overhyped and too expensive
