  • Microsoft 365 subscriptions come with 60 mins of skype call to landline numbers each month, I wonder if that'll be available on Teams...

Thx Josh, checked the site, seems more geared towards gamers though ya?

eh possible. But Teamspeak can be used for whatever. It's been around for quite some time.
I'm not sure though if you can host it yourself anymore.

  • I use Signal. They allow usernames now, so you don't need to give out your phone number. It has everything Skype did, allowing group chats up to 1000 participants and voice and video calling.

Did not know that, that is good news. The one thing I didn't prefer about signal and whatsapp as well is they ask for access to your contacts all the time.

How did you handle that? Just allow access to all contacts?

  • Signal is an alternative to Telegram and I found it's good, already moved all my boys chat from Telegram to Signal for moar privacy, I found out that Telegram somehow allow our govt to access chat data in case they needed.

So we moved to Signal xD

  • Microsoft killed Skype. MS Teams is not Skype. Skype was the unique product.

Sending letters is only 1 euro. I just switched to that. Also sending voice messages thru USB sticks that way.

I love sending rubber ducks in the mail!

    Solid.

  • For Video live meetings, you have Vivo LTD (lifetime license), which includes automatic transcription and audio and video recording in Plan 4. You have two months to try it out, and ask for a refund if it doesn't suit you.

When did that happened? I don't read my emails but I sure never got any updates on that. When I signed in, I still see the 60 mins?? So confusing.

very odd as it looks like Skype Out was removed from my Microsoft 365 subscription.

  • The only problem with WhatsApp is that their system sometimes blocks your account for SPAM even if you don't spam. For example, if you are in a bad situation where many people call you, and you respond very quickly to everyone with a message warning of maintenance or something, you will be banned.

That's weird indeed. I rarely use skype out but it's handy when I travel and I need to make quick calls without any charges. I'd be sad if it's gone for good.

M365 bonus will be retired by next year March as per their new ToS. Until then you can still use it and if it was removed from your account you can reassign it until May this year. That's how I understand their service agreement text.

I use Signal in my work profile which doesn't have any contacts. If your rom doesn't have this by default, Shelter allows you to set up a work profile on Android.

  • Virola.io for business communication. Not exactly a direct alternative to Skype, since it's self-hosted, but it offers more privacy than any cloud service.

It’s private unlike Discord and Telegram.

Signal is private ya but you have to put in the number which is not ideal. I checked out Threema, that one is pretty cool, and has 11 million users, might check that one out. Thx
