For those of us them who run perpetual packet processors and mission critical world relay infrastructure, can we request migration balancing of some VMs from DC2 to DC1 so that no matter what happens, the mission critical idlers perpetual packet processors relays are always online in SG?

CC: the-boss-in-mission-critical-infrastructure-management (not just for our generation but for the next Lincolns generation as well) aka Mr.Bean-is-the-man @beanman109

For normal plans we do allow location change. For promotional plans now we only allow the line switch in JP (between IIJ and Softbank). We might add SG to that allowed list too after the migration as we will have enough resources.

    can japan move to SG

Not the most attractive pricing ordering direct but OVH is solid. Been using them for years.

Just got the email about the migration:

The migration is scheduled to take place in mid-March 2025.
During this process, we anticipate a service outage lasting
    approximately 12–24 hours.
No data or IP addresses will be affected.
We will provide the exact date and time in a follow-up email
    once confirmed.

In anticipation of the disruption (12-24 hours, including a shutdown) and to avoid disruption in the global relay network (or your idlers workers as the case may be), please be sure to stock up on enough GC VMs from OTHER locations (i.e. NOT SG1 or maybe even not SG2) so that everything is ship shape.

Clearly we need more dealz to help us cope with losing our uptime stats.

I hope the GC overlords are hearing us here. Besides we're pretty close to the 900K milestone and yet again, I have under-estimated the cost of silence in this thread.

Maybe @NDTN can rent a Generator Set with 5G connections to make sure all the servers are still online (but with highly reduced speed) during the migration process :joy:

check layer7.net they have 50tb bandwidth vps I had one ipv6 only 8gb ram on for like 20 eur and cancelled it afterwards since I couldn't do anything with ipv6 😂 🤌 now I don't think that plan will be available but you can buy one with ipv4

That's going to give a whole new meaning to the phrase "data center move".

You're clearly setting up some impressive benchmarks to aspire to.

    Very interesting!

Don't forget the bit about the mission-critical-world-relay-network-that-severs-art.

They will definitely appreciate that and give you a discount for running something comparably critical to DNS root servers for the internet.

I mean it's the least you can do for the community (and the Internet) at large.

  • @NDTN - asking for members of the community (and a friend) here - can you please think about that mythical almost real $500 spend threshold to earn ultimate-VIP-privileges (or was it cashback?) on the GCN (GC Network)? It'll be good to get a little wiggle room on that number. I have to actually add (and need a calculator) to get my numbers accurate but I think it is fair to say I'm going to be shocked at how much I have spent here only because they are an essential business critical acquisition

I now really worried about whether it was the least I could have done.

Peoples and hono(u)rable members of this community thread, if you think you have similar problems, please thank this thread. It'll give me (and maybe GC) a clue on how distored my perception of essential services to leading a normal life are.

We're almost at 900K and this is definitely going to run (and ruin a lot of us) when it goes to 1M.
