chromebook is just a locked down version of android
most your shit is stored on onedrive/google cloud so you can just wipe the device once a day and nothing gets fucked

i think chromebook has a linux subsystem you can use, but pretty sure trying to actually install linux onto it as the sole OS is the equivilent of doing the same on an iPhone, technically possibly but made as hard as can be

  • So there no flashdeals now untill this thread reached 1M views right ?

The Chromebook and its OS were indeed eye-catching when they first came out, but they're only good for browsing the web or reading stuff—can't do much more than that (though some simple tasks are still well...).

I had a Chromebook Pixel 2013, but the Linux subsystem never worked out… Over time, the software stopped supporting it, and some of its hardware drivers were proprietary to Google’s Linux setup (with physical encryption). When I tried installing Windows, there were issues with incomplete drivers…

You can install it on your own x86 machine, just don't try and dual boot it - install it on a separate ssd/nvme: https://chromeos.google/intl/en_us/products/chromeos-flex/

You can also run Linux in a container on it https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/9145439?hl=en

I saw the price in my cart at least this time but ultimately failed...time to cope hard 💚

It's weird, 1.5 hours later my CC was just charged for the full amount for the VDS. I had the promo price when I clicked pay but then got the usual unpaid invoice popup for full amount (as is usual when miss the deal at last millisecond). Usually the invoice just sits there unpaid, it's kinda strange it just paid by itself over an hour later. This ever happen to anyone?

  • special offer for the LET member in this thread with the most GC instances?! @NDTN :#

i’m just shooting my shot at another chance at that AZ storage deal <3

I haven’t had that but the other night I had one where I saw a registered transaction on my phone for the correct discounted amount, however I was taken back to an empty shopping cart. No invoice was ever raised nor service.

I assume the payment (against a store card) was going on as the deal sold out triggering that series of events. Reached out to support who confirmed the card hold wouldnt be processed.

Now for the flash deals I just go with PayPal to generate an invoice I’ll pay later on if it goes through smoothly. Don’t want to risk card activity when stocks likely to be an issue and the time taken to process payment could see the above happen.

Just use an old x86 laptop :) or even cheaper, use an old machine of yours and just grab an ssd for it - doesn't need much space at all!

hell you can even get freaky and try and install it on a Greencloud KVM :D
