@sh97 @beanman109 does any of you want a $7/yr Amsterdam VPS for $7 (preferably paid with crypto, but PayPal should also be possible) (if both of you are interested the one that is the fastest gets it)?
(And btw, while I haven't got the 2 GB Norway VPS, I still have a 1 GB Norway VPS for $7 and a $3/mo dedi.)

And thank you @gigahost for being quite generous with the amount of VPSes!

not sure if transfers are allowed but nice of you

@gigahost petition to add "UTC" as a timezone that can be choosed during server install, and have it on top and for it to be the default

default Debian GUI installer does not offer UTC for some reason but it's very much a valid timezone: timedatectl set-timezone UTC

btw, re. this, Hetrix often complains that my servers with UTC are out of sync by like 40-60 secs, anyone else have this issue? Not sure if the issue is the servers or Hetrix

    install ntp

what? isn't time synced by default?

debian default ntp is cooked 75% of the time, check ntp is actually running and syncing with ntpq

I think they are, at least I remember that I saw some transfers on the OGF, but of course the policy could have been changed.
@gigahost can you confirm whether transfers are possible?

I mean I'm all for minimal systems but Debian not by default at least running systemd-timesyncd or some light way of syncing the time is weird to me

    System clock synchronized: no
                  NTP service: n/a
              RTC in local TZ: no

    ChatGPT says no

    Method Pros Cons Best For
systemd-timesyncd (Default in Debian) Lightweight, built into systemd, simple to enable Lacks advanced NTP features (e.g., peer-to-peer sync, local server capabilities) General use, simple setups
NTP (ntpd) Full-featured NTP daemon, precise, can act as an NTP server Heavier than systemd-timesyncd, more complex configuration Traditional NTP setups, acting as an NTP server
Chrony (chronyd) Fast synchronization, better for laptops and unreliable networks, adaptive More advanced than needed for simple use cases Best for mobile/laptop setups, unstable networks
ntpdate (deprecated) Simple one-time sync Doesn't keep time synced continuously, replaced by ntpd and chronyd Manual/single-time sync
