The problem is that based on Moore's law it will be faster than the Inflation Rate so in general the price will keeps dropping, only buy when needed probably makes it cheaper assuming you invest your money, there's also no guarantee that the provider will still be there by the time you actually need to use it.

if transcoding one HLS stream (1080p @ 4 mbps 165 fps) uses up ~75% of the CPU of a dedi, is it safe to say I could theoretically run roughly 6 streams at 1080p 24 fps with no problems?
