I just checked and somebody gave me a vps which apparently has traffic limit set at 100000GB 🤔 How can I put it to good use ?

    Public Invidious Instnace: https://docs.invidious.io/

We are seriously lacking in public instances because google keeps blocking them.

I fucking hate google and everything they do

Yeah, I used to run a few instances but they kept getting blocked. It was an annoying cat and mouse game, and the cat pussy won this time around. Fuck you Google

After hating google for a very long time I have re-embraced it.... ie since I got google one's 2TB for $40-ish :D I realized it was way cheaper than even my self hosted 2TB from hosthatch which I was paying $37 for. then u need a backup and the total goes to $80! so after 80 bucks u r left with crappy nextcloud which comes no where close to google photos , i realize they r 2 different products with different purposes but bloody hell the time u waste trying to set things up only for them to break :s Unless someone has like 5TB or more of photos, self hosting photos at least is not really worth it.

How did you get it for $40ish?

If u paid for a year u get to keep the current pricing until the term expires but at the time of renewal all will have to renew at the new prices...

& I recently sold off my 2TB vps from crunchbits with copious amounts of bandwidth bcoz I was fully transitioning to Google....

Google always manages to fk up ur plans. couple of years back they were killing the google apps legacy accounts so I downloaded all my photos and deleted them in google photos(shudnt have) while getting ready to transition to nextcloud, only to be told that Google has cancelled its plan to retire google apps legacy :s

I had 2 google one subscriptions. One was US, the other was Pakistan based.

US price is still the same, I checked.

Pakistan's price has increased from PKR 10,500 to 21,000. So that's a 100% increase :s Roughly $80. Then if u r paying with a Pakistani card the broke-ass pakistani govt tags an extra 10-20% in fees, so it roughly touches $90-100, not a lot of difference left from the US pricing after that.

Ok I get the feeling Google is paying personal attention to this thread :s :s :s :s :s

    Public Invidious Instnace: https://docs.invidious.io/

We are seriously lacking in public instances because google keeps blocking them.

I fucking hate google and everything they do

But on a side note gooogle grand father's previous pricing or that's changed?

If u paid for a year u get to keep the current pricing until the term expires but at the time of renewal all will have to renew at the new prices...

& I recently sold off my 2TB vps from crunchbits with copious amounts of bandwidth bcoz I was fully transitioning to Google....

Google always manages to fk up ur plans. couple of years back they were killing the google apps legacy accounts so I downloaded all my photos and deleted them in google photos(shudnt have) while getting ready to transition to nextcloud, only to be told that Google has cancelled its plan to retire google apps legacy :s

    But shit be told
You are not managing the data and Google is
So it's still a banger deal considering you get 5 nines of resilience and uptime

Try that with any self hosting....

The only real issue with photo self host is. It's kind of "secure" to keep your photos at Google Photos. You can share the photos with others or create shared albums.

Exposing Immich to public internet is the worst idea ever. So your photos will be kind of locked away. You can create a shared album with Google Photos and people can contribute. No such thing securely can be done with self host solutions. Or you have to make everyone install a VPN so they can reach your network.

Lets see, the feature I miss the most is automatic photos/videos sharing of selected faces from ur partner. So if my wife takes photos of my kids on her phone, they automatically show up in my google photos gallery... Google does have some great tech at their hands!

Yup absolutely right, nothing comes close.. U first got to host any shit software then u need to get a second node for the backup. After making sure everything works u r still left with an inferior solution that is prone to errors or just fking dying when u need it the most.

in 2023 i went to turkey for vacations with the family, my phone was stolen. back then i had google photos set to reduced quality bcoz I had nextcloud backing up my photos too at original quality. So, I was not worried, thinking that I had a full hq backup in the cloud but lo and behold the nextcloud had arbitrarily stopped uploading data to the cloud few months back without ever notifying me :s .....

    Turkey's price has increased a lot. :'(
I wonder if there are any countries where Google One is cheaper.
