You guys are really downplaying how much power on society google has with search, ads, and android.
Sure M$ has power for desktop computers, but everyone using Windows also uses google, everyone using mac or linux also uses google.
Outside of NA, there's basically only Android. They track literally every single fucking thing you do and ACTIVELY use that illegally gained information to control what you purchase and who you talk to and what you learn about.
It's an actual evil corporation beyond any we have seen in human history.

It's true. Google profits off of search and email, Apple from iPhones, macbooks & iCloud subs. One of them means personal data's the main product the other don't. Apple don't have a huge ad biz driving it's decisions.

One time (and probably only time) Tim Cook got publicly angry was when a shareholder asked him to scrap Apple's environmental and accessibility initiatives and only focus on ROI. Tim Cook told him to get out of Apple stock, as he isn't giving up on environment and accessibility.
But for sure one doesn't become a 3 trillion dollar company by just being nice. They care a hell of a lot about money too.

Ads is ALWAYS the culprit in personal data being abused.
Well, not always, there's still requests by states etc, but in general when it comes to personal data being abused in mass scale it's ads.
