Yeah I have been to that cruise trip between Finland and Estonia. It was crazy to see people carrying multiple boxes of vodka bottles on shopping trolleys. Like they went to grocery shopping but just bought alcohol.

I don't really drink alcohol, but I doubt it's any better in Norway when it comes to alcohol prices. There's a reason why we travel across the border to Sweden to buy booze.

    Best time?

Summers are best (I'm biased because I love the summers). Go north in June (or maybe even late-ish May to early-mid-ish July) and you can experience the midnight sun phenomenon (something I've yet to experience myself, but apparently it's kinda cool lol).

Lots of places to hike or camp, if you're into that.

People (apparently) also really like the fjords here in Norway.

When it snows in Ireland, just for 2 days (not non stop), all the grocery stores run out of milk, meat and loaf of bread and toilet papers. And it takes almost 2 weeks to get them restocked properly. So I will skip the snow.

Highest alcohol tax in EU is on Finland, and second highest is Ireland. So people in both countries look for alternatives.

In Finland, people take boat cruises to Estonia. In Ireland people drive up north and refill their stocks.

I think that won't last long unfortunately. I still follow Finland via Reddit. I recently saw some threads that people can't find any jobs to apply.

Like, people hide from their CV that they did Phd. so they won't get rejected for being overqualified for a cleaning job. It's that bad it seems.

Not sure I really have any non-touristy recommendations. Besides my own city, I'm generally a tourist in my own country lol

There's some cool museums and places to see in Oslo (the capital): The Royal Palace, Viking ship museum, Akershus fortress, the botanical garden and the technical museum.

Bergen was suggested, been a while since I was there, but there are some cool historical buildings at the place called "Bryggen" (translates to "The Harbor").

Trondheim has the Nidaros cathedral, which they started building in like the year 1100 or something (and didn't complete until like 150 years later or so).

For the midnight sun you'd want to go even further north, like Bodø or Tromsø.
