vpshostingservice.co tech support sucks, and also, no smtp/tcp-25 connectivity outbound

I have a vps with vpshostingservice.co in Romania. I can't make outbound smtp connections to anywhere... I noticed while testing smtp connectivity to my day-job's mail servers and then tested to several large email providers (google, microsoft, yahoo) - no smtp connections to any of their MX-listed servers for their domains.

I've had several back-and-forth's with one of their tech support guys who keeps telling me I have a firewall issue and that the problem is on my end, and that he can't help me.

I got this as a black-friday deal, and it is inexpensive... I guess you get what you pay for. I only got it because I occasionally want to test connectivity for work.

Be aware that if you buy from them you'll get a slowish vps and terrible tech support and apparently no outbound tcp port 25...

Congrats on your first post since 2019!

  • Proof of screenshots of the ticket and server port being "blocked"? I had windows and Linux VPS servers with them in LAX and TX before and the support was very friendly and good. Maybe check your firewall?

That's my point, they won't admit it's blocked, they wont even try to test because they're so sure that my vanilla install of debian cant just

#from a vps on another provider
    $ nc gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25
    220 mx.google.com ESMTP d9443c01a7336-220d5408d07si337555ad.279 - gsmtp

When done from my vps, I get connection timeouts. When I control both ends and watch network traffic, I can make/see connections to tcp port 27 (nc -l on receiving side, also watching with tcpdump). On port 25, packets never arrive at the remote end, and no connection.

What are you asking for screenshots of? I'm happy to give you some - I can screenshot their support guy telling me that despite my vps not being able to make tcp connections to gmail, that the problem must be on my end.

It's a .co domain. The life expectancy of hosts using a .co domain is 7 to 9 months. It's impressive that they are still in business...
At least the website does not disappoint. No TOS, no AUP, no VAT registration number or any legitimate company related data required by EU there.

Whatever is with this specific host, blocked 25/tcp (SMTP) is pretty much an industry-standard. Different providers have different policies for unblock, but in most cases it is manual review.

If it is important for you, read ToS/AUP and if unsure, reach support before doing an order.

  • I know it is not uncommon to block on new accounts, and most have some process to eventually get unblocked.

There is no TOS/AUP on vpshostingservice.co that I can find (maybe there was in the ordering process in December).

And, the whole point of my comment is that their support sucks bad enough that they don't know that this is their policy, that it's them doing it, and that they don't have it documented enough anywhere that they can even admit that it's them.

Like I said, for $2/month, I shouldn't expect much, but at least let me use the mostly-otherwise-unused vps to do network testing for my job... sigh.
