(project) Randomized Bed Side Picker for Couples

me and gf get along!

we do a lot of projects but some are not fitting for this community, i guess if you want to see non-IT things leave a comment!

anyways. i really really dislike permanent bed sides

one bed side, let's call it "desk" has easier access to the bathroom and better phone charging setup
another bed side, let's call it "window", has better access to the window and a side table for water, phone (charging not so good imo) but if you want to go to the toilet you need to akwardly go around a corner

anyways, gf ALWAYS wants to sleep at the window, i sometimes want to sleep at the window

solution?

  • we switch every night

problem?

  • "it's too predicable"
  • "i sometimes sleep at parents home, do we skip? continue?"
  • "and some other mumbling"

actual solution?

  • use a bunch of true random numbers from quantum fluctuations of the vacuum from here https://qrng.anu.edu.au/ (sidenode, i would love to get some geiger counters and use radiation instead, but no funds for that project)
  • average the numbers
  • add some extra features against cheating
  • profit i guess

code is on github ( https://github.com/TheChemicalWorkshop/bedside-api/blob/main/app.py )
i added following features:

  • database, so days can't be re-rolled, like revisiting the website and claiming other result
  • having the day start at 17 instead of 00, so "wait it's past midnight, we now sleep diffrently (obv in her favour)) also it starts at 17 so she can't decide early if she'll sleep at my place or not, she basically needs to decide and after that she knows the result

do you have questions?
let me know!

she approved the pull requests and she can't say it's RIGGED and so far (29 days in) it appears to work and we sleep at the randomly assigned bedsides

oh and i hope this puts a smile on @RickBakkr 's face:)

This is the greatest thing I have seen today and I thank you very much for the laughs. I love random things like this that people put their effort into.

Are we talking similar code but of an adult nature? Because I would love to see that :D

    echo $RANDOM.

Apropos of random, @yoursunny can you tweak what the next number at https://csrc.nist.gov/projects/interoperable-randomness-beacons is going to be? Just slam into the Beacons Office, kill the gay white man, the black woman in charge, steal the candies in the pot and take over. 100,000 dollars per month can be made on this, send inquiries by PM.

Haha. Exactly what I was going to comment! :#

  • @raindog308 said: Dude, just a flip a coin.

Can't, because coin will eventually land on its side (1 in 6000 tosses). And when it does it, no one that night will sleep...

no code, other projects, not it related

    yeah

  • Clever, but couldn't you have just flipped a coin or something?
I guess this is an awesome perk of having a like-minded partner. Good luck, both of you.

    yeah

After certain activities with your gf in bed, do you happen to forget on which side you're that night or there's a strict log policy before activities?

  • machines are meant to do complex work...

    coins arent 50/50
    nor are my hands

you can refresh the site as much as you like, it gets cached, you cant re-roll a day
we enforce it, even if we lay temporarily on the other side we always switch to correct sides before sleep
