    whats up guys..

    How's it going?

Worst. My laptop got damaged (hp victus). The hinge broken and display is blank. When I googled the entire series got the same complaint it seems. Worst from HP.

Don't know what to do now. No service center near me. And also have to bear all the expenses from my pocket :(

There's a famous YouTuber (the greatest technician that's ever lived) who calls HP - Hinge Problem. I won't recommend going to an HP service center for the repay, cause, they will charge you higher rates.

For the time being, see if an external display is detected, as Blazin said. If it isn't most prolly a motherboard issue as well. I'd recommend to get it fixed at a local service center, or if visiting NCR any time soon, Nehru place.

Visited local service center today and they said these spares are not available and suggested me to contact hp service center. :(

Yup, i'll never ever go to hp again. Worst thing is, i didn't even used the hinge much. It just sits there as desktop, I'll always leave the lid open, and just sleeps the windows every night. The hinge just broke just like that on its own.

If the display is not working at all, I mean not even BIOS, then, check for any beeps during the boot. If not, there's a very good chance that the issue is within the mobo, in which case, do not visit HP service center at all. Also, do not listen to anyone who says the entire mobo has to be changed.

In many cases, it's the display chip that's fried. You are in luck if your CPU also comes with an iGPU, cause, if it's the NVIDIA GPU that's fried, then, a technician can bypass the eGPU such that the laptop uses only iGPU for functioning. In that case, you can atleast use the laptop for general use.

As per google, the entire victus 16 have the same problem. The hinge damages after 1 and half year. Seems they rectified this design issue in later versions.

I've read many reviews where If the device is in warranty hp replaced the hinge as well as display for free of charge for many people. But my device is out of warranty.

I think I have to contact hp once, to know the issue. If they quote huge amount, I can refuse to get it repaired , right?

Okay, given it isn't extremely old, here is what you should do. Make a public post tagging HP on social media. On Facebook, post on their page and on Twitter, tag every official HP tag you find.
Rant about the bad quality, and how it has effected your work. Insist on a free repair being done. Maybe add the images of the product. Not guaranteed to work, but, it just might.

Thanks. Will try the options after contacting the support first. I'm not much active on social media.

My first priority for the time being is trying to get my data from the nvme. :(

If you are not very active, then try Facebook official HP page for India. As for the NVMe, your best bet is to try another laptop with an NVMe drive, cause NMVe to USB enclosures come for around 2K alone here.

Ordered one at Rs 999 yesterday in Amazon. Pibox brand. It will arrive on thursday.

If anyone is interested, heres my resource monitor for my vanilla minecraft server on my 2.5GB vps with 2 vCPUs. We have 5 players total. Typically we have 1 or 2 people on and we usually peek at 3 for maybe an hour or 2 every other day.

No lag or performance issues have been reported yet. Hosted in rack nerd LA data center, we have people accessing from 4 different states from the midwest.

If you notice, Jan 22nd theres a drop in RAM usage. The server reboot randomly, never really looked into why and it took me a bit to restart as I wasnt around. Dont have the server auto start because i'd rather look into what caused the reboot first rather than risk corruption of files.

Server also hosts a process that watches minecraft logs and publishes specific messages to a discord webhook. Additionally it runs Rsync every 2 hours to sync a copy of the current world to 2 different racknerd VPSs.

CPU peaks usually arrive when people go to uncharted territories and the server has to generate new chunks. There are some interesting mods I learned about that will auto generate chunks while people are offline to lighten the generation load however i dont really want to run a modded version of the server.

is this plain vanilla? I recently have taken over a lot of operations (and soon aparently ownership) of a towny server, and got set up with a Ryzen vps deal via dustin, and with all the plugins we use, im using 5gb ram, and have 70+ plugins... and we plan to have more than 3 on at a time, so I got a bit of overhead XD

Apart from the high temperature if used constantly for write tasks and that too at USB 3.2 it's a solid choice it won't have any issue running 24x7 connected to USB 3.1 or lower.

Mine 1K one running fine though.... Purchased from Amazon, apparently worth the money.

Whats the brand? I ordered one at same price.

The same one you ordered, pibox... Mine comes with a fan......

Do you think it'd be able to handle being plugged in all the time?

Apart from the high temperature if used constantly for write tasks and that too at USB 3.2 it's a solid choice it won't have any issue running 24x7 connected to USB 3.1 or lower.

It'll be connected to a USB 2.0. I know that's an obvious bottleneck. I was looking for storage options for this box and then saw that 1TB SATA and NVMe drives were almost similarly priced in the last sale. That's what gave me the idea to rather invest in an NVMe instead. I was shying away just cause of the 2K extra for the adaptor. Now that it's cheap, I am gonna do that. Don't care about the speeds. It will be used only for media.

I think racknerd may be having some sort of issues with the node my server is on :'(

I sent them a ticket to check it out. I keep losing ping from multiple locations. Also not sure if theres a place they list any known issues. If anyone knows, let me know! Else I asked support as well

    Check if there's something here - https://status.racknerd.com/

Perfect Ty noob! Looks like nothing on my node! bookmarked for the future!

NP. What node are you on BTW?

    LAXSSD7003nerd2DC02

Looks like last issues was on the 21st! not sure what was eating up my vps but it eventually cleared up :confounded:

I might have faced a similar issue last month. The support tried to fix it, but, since it wasn't fixed, they very quickly accepted my request for moving to a node. No issues since the move.

    whats up guys..

Yup the price difference is almost negligible now.

Wow, this is awesome. I have checked out their SATA docks before. Didn't know they had an NVMe enclosure this cheap. Wonder if it'd be durable enough to connect to my local Jellyfin Android box.

Reviews seems good. Will update about it after I receive the enclosure.

Sure, please do. BTW, I am planning to launch my mystery project in a day or two. This time for serious. I believe, almost all the kinks have been worked out, to justify a launch.

apart from first time driver initialization hiccup everything is working fine, i am not using it for heavy write loads but on usb 3 it's giving around 250-450mbps will need to see if i can push it to 10gbps with usb3.2 which i honestly doubt, i can imagine it to be around 5-6gbps but it won't be near to 10gbps in no way. The rtl9210 isn't the best available there and i will just call it outdated that can't be pushed over 6gbps unless ofcourse i am wrong and the OEM supplying the hardware to pibox is able to tweak it hardly.

Then you are mostly fine, as for the enclosure make sure you are getting one with proper thermal management the fan one i got isn't good, instead of get something made out of aluminum and doesn't have slide based chassis... i don't like mine because of this the gap between upper aluminum casing and the drive with heat spreader on it is just not nice...

Yep just plain vanilla on this one! I think we are going to hit disk limits before RAM or cpu. People have been exploring the ocean, wish I could delete those chunks.. seems like a waste

I am looking for anything below 1K. As for thermals, I can get good thermal pads and maybe add a small fan to it. Got a few free ports on the android box that could be used to power the fan as well, if required.

What is the driver initialization hiccup? What issues you faced?

Although I am not using it for heavy write loads, I need to transfer my virtual machine from the drive, which is around 50 to 60GB.
