    whats up guys..

    How's it going?

Worst. My laptop got damaged (hp victus). The hinge broken and display is blank. When I googled the entire series got the same complaint it seems. Worst from HP.

Don't know what to do now. No service center near me. And also have to bear all the expenses from my pocket :(

  • Do you at least have an external display to use?

There's a famous YouTuber (the greatest technician that's ever lived) who calls HP - Hinge Problem. I won't recommend going to an HP service center for the repay, cause, they will charge you higher rates.

For the time being, see if an external display is detected, as Blazin said. If it isn't most prolly a motherboard issue as well. I'd recommend to get it fixed at a local service center, or if visiting NCR any time soon, Nehru place.

Thats the main problem. Even though the hinge broken, I've been using the laptop with external monitor. But the graphics are crashing , so googled and downloaded a older version of nvidia drivers from hp website.

After installing the drivers the external display is also gone. No display nothing, just a sound coming to inform me the os booted and on login screen. But no display now either through hdmi or intenral display. :(

Visited local service center today and they said these spares are not available and suggested me to contact hp service center. :(

Yup, i'll never ever go to hp again. Worst thing is, i didn't even used the hinge much. It just sits there as desktop, I'll always leave the lid open, and just sleeps the windows every night. The hinge just broke just like that on its own.

I had a bad experience on HP as well as long time ago.. Never bought them again as a result. I think their products are just garbage now which is a shame because they used to work so well.

If they HDD is removable, you could try an external mount and hook it up to another device. Maybe manual install some drivers on the drive as well to get you back to a working driver version that allowed the external display to work. I've had luck recovering a few systems before via mounting it with an external drive and using another machine..

Not at all. It is what we make of it. Let's hope for now, that it ends on a good note to a better community.

Indeed, we had a rough bump there towards the end but I think everyone is going to come out better for it. Im hopeful the mods are drafting a set of rules that allow us to continue to have this fun and make it more enjoyable and equal for all the providers and those who want to play in the fun.

Theres a large audience that enjoys these kinds of threads as well as those that dont but im pretty optimistic they'll get a good solution. Maybe at the same time they'll get off this funky vanilla software :)

If the display is not working at all, I mean not even BIOS, then, check for any beeps during the boot. If not, there's a very good chance that the issue is within the mobo, in which case, do not visit HP service center at all. Also, do not listen to anyone who says the entire mobo has to be changed.

In many cases, it's the display chip that's fried. You are in luck if your CPU also comes with an iGPU, cause, if it's the NVIDIA GPU that's fried, then, a technician can bypass the eGPU such that the laptop uses only iGPU for functioning. In that case, you can atleast use the laptop for general use.

Yup, I am really hoping for something goo to come out of this as well, that the providers are gonna find useful and implementable, as well.
And, you are right. A migration from Vanilla would also do LET some good. There are readymade scripts for migration to the more modern platforms, but, yes, they don't cover every scenario. So, we can expect a downtime if at all they make a decision to move to a better forum software.

As per google, the entire victus 16 have the same problem. The hinge damages after 1 and half year. Seems they rectified this design issue in later versions.

I've read many reviews where If the device is in warranty hp replaced the hinge as well as display for free of charge for many people. But my device is out of warranty.

I think I have to contact hp once, to know the issue. If they quote huge amount, I can refuse to get it repaired , right?

Okay, given it isn't extremely old, here is what you should do. Make a public post tagging HP on social media. On Facebook, post on their page and on Twitter, tag every official HP tag you find.
Rant about the bad quality, and how it has effected your work. Insist on a free repair being done. Maybe add the images of the product. Not guaranteed to work, but, it just might.

If you are not very active, then try Facebook official HP page for India. As for the NVMe, your best bet is to try another laptop with an NVMe drive, cause NMVe to USB enclosures come for around 2K alone here.

Thanks. Will try the options after contacting the support first. I'm not much active on social media.

My first priority for the time being is trying to get my data from the nvme. :(

If you are not very active, then try Facebook official HP page for India. As for the NVMe, your best bet is to try another laptop with an NVMe drive, cause NMVe to USB enclosures come for around 2K alone here.

Mine 1K one running fine though.... Purchased from Amazon, apparently worth the money.

Share link to the product. I have been looking for one and haven't been able to find one below 2kish.

If anyone is interested, heres my resource monitor for my vanilla minecraft server on my 2.5GB vps with 2 vCPUs. We have 5 players total. Typically we have 1 or 2 people on and we usually peek at 3 for maybe an hour or 2 every other day.

No lag or performance issues have been reported yet. Hosted in rack nerd LA data center, we have people accessing from 4 different states from the midwest.

If you notice, Jan 22nd theres a drop in RAM usage. The server reboot randomly, never really looked into why and it took me a bit to restart as I wasnt around. Dont have the server auto start because i'd rather look into what caused the reboot first rather than risk corruption of files.

Server also hosts a process that watches minecraft logs and publishes specific messages to a discord webhook. Additionally it runs Rsync every 2 hours to sync a copy of the current world to 2 different racknerd VPSs.

CPU peaks usually arrive when people go to uncharted territories and the server has to generate new chunks. There are some interesting mods I learned about that will auto generate chunks while people are offline to lighten the generation load however i dont really want to run a modded version of the server.

Oh yes, I certainly do hope we hit 1000 in the most respectful way possible. We only got roughly 4 days left for the end of the NY thread. It has been a pleasure making all of your acquaintances.

My project is almost ready for launch. I wanted to launch it back in December, but, everytime, I get close to it, one or the other bug pops out (expected). I'd also like to thank members of the RackNerd threads, esp. @TrK for helping me with the projects.

Im getting more worried about that page 1,000 number now ;)

30 posts a page, call it 9 more pages to go 270 more posts.. Its easily doable if dustin drops one last final giveaway before we close this party out.

It would be a shame if we didn't hit that lovely number after all we have been through in this party!

This is awesome. Now, I know exactly what I will require if I do plan on running MC in the future. Thanks for this. As for backup, why rsyncing to two different VPSes?

Exactly. I'd be lying if I said, I wasn't exactly concerned about reaching page 1000. I dunno if it's just plain old OCD, but, I'd really love to reach page 1000.

Pretty sure there's gonna be atleast one giveaway before the party concludes. We need enough noise for that to happen though.

The rsync is just my cheap and easy way to make a backup of the maps if I ever lose the server. Copying the data directory to 2 other servers and i am assuming they are on different physical drives somewhere. Im actually not sure how racknerd backs up data or if backups are even avaialable to me :) I just always assumed if its important enough, I should just be making my own backup somehow

  • Ha speak of the devil.. just as we are talking about my minecraft server, the server has went DOWN! Doing some investigation.. wonder if the cause of this reboot is same as the last

I was too quick.. looks like it was some kind of network blip instead actually. Server still up and 6 days of uptime (time since that last reboot). I had a service running that was pinging discord as well and that seemed to lose its connection as well. Minecraft server itself recovered fine, just booted us all for a moment

  • Hello, I would like to double the bandwidth.
    Order: 6120913565
    Thanks!

  • I think racknerd may be having some sort of issues with the node my server is on :'(

I sent them a ticket to check it out. I keep losing ping from multiple locations. Also not sure if theres a place they list any known issues. If anyone knows, let me know! Else I asked support as well
