@CLAWCLOUD
I’ve been considering migrating my site to CLAW, but I must admit that I’m somewhat disappointed.
I previously purchased server #9380 in Tokyo, right when the Tokyo region first launched. Since CLAW provides backup functionality, I thought it might be suitable for hosting my site.
As it’s for site hosting, I was really hoping to take advantage of the memory-doubling promotion, but unfortunately, I missed it on Jan 13th, which was quite frustrating.
As a result, the single server is unable to handle my site’s needs. So, I decided to purchase another server and distribute the site across two machines. There’s a promotion going on right now, and I guessed correctly that it would indeed be a long-term $4.2 USD offer. I purchased a new server, #32357, also in Tokyo. I felt that this non-China-Optimized server might be more suitable. However, after the purchase, I discovered that the two servers cannot be connected via the internal network.
I plan to try setting up a VPN myself. If public network transfers were free, that could work (though in practice, I noticed that bandwidth is deducted). I’m not sure if internal networking requires the servers to be moved into the same availability zone. If I decide to migrate the site and dismantle the original setup, it would inevitably involve some downtime.
On another note, since promotional servers are billed monthly, it feels a bit inconvenient if I want to renew long-term after confirming satisfaction with the service. The renewal options are limited to two months at most, and the renewal period can be a bit confusing. For example, my server #9380 has a next due date of March 18, but the renewal period is shown as March 18 to April 17. In reality, renewals will be allowed starting from February 18.
I’m also uncertain whether automatic payments via credit card will work smoothly. For serious site hosting, billing concerns can be quite stressful.
Lastly, I noticed that data disks have been introduced, although the pricing still feels a bit high. As for LB and RDS, they seem out of reach for now. For low-end personal site hosting, these features don’t feel cost-effective.
I hope that servers under the same account and in the same location can be interconnected either for free or at a very low cost. Of course, it would be even better if the memory of the original server could be doubled.
Wishing CLAW continued success and an increasing number of site-hosting users.
