This one I did buy last week and tested.

For the same criteria (same OS, same file, same ffmpeg preset and parameters), Berohost (2 core ryzen 9950x shared vps) gives avg 10 more fps than the above. I was slightly disappointed.

Keeping other parameters same, PH24 (4 core genoa) does match with berohost but throttling to 50% does come in to play (as expected).

The above VDS performs per with (in case of ffmpeg encoder) naranjatech genoa shared vps ($30/year) which is where disappointment does come in.

Formatted multiple times, tried with different OS later but in my case, the performance remained below expectations which is a bit frustrating because it was a great value for money package otherwise.

If the GeekBench score does not match the ffmpeg performance it might be due to different compilation flags for ffmpeg set by the different linux distributions. It would be interesting to compare the encoding speed using the same version and build number of ffmpeg from the same linux repository. But I guess you have tried this already?

Current YABS seems way too low for a VDS or am I missing something?

        Geekbench 6 Benchmark Test:
        ---------------------------------
        Test | Value
                        |
        Single Core | 627
        Multi Core | 614
        Full Test | https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/9962602

Config: Epyc Dedicated Cloud Server 2Core-8GB-80GB PAR1

IMHO both single and especially multi core score should be higher; maybe it's a similar problem to this (there the VDS was accidentally setup as VPS, and then was throttled).
Have you opened a ticket with @layer7?

Afrer talking with David, I opened a ticket and it has been resolved. It was indeed getting throttling but layer7 made it dedicated now so running smooth now.

Thank you. Are these all dedicated cores? I'm looking at their 5€/month plan.

yes. dedicated. since its vds. you can have my vds for 1-2days if just needed for encoding. or i can transfer it to you for money. i dont need it now.

That isn't a VDS, because if it would be one, there could only 5 on one host (even less if without SMT), that would mean that the host system would cost them less than 40€/mo (power costs alone could be higher), and the amount of memory wouldn't make much sense for a VDS, and the performance would be a bit low for a VDS. Also it wasn't advertised as a VDS.

    I think it's bs marketing

It's dedicated until it is not due to constant 24x7 cpu hit.

4x Ryzen 9900x … even 50% dedicated would be an extraordinary deal for $9/month

8gb memory is another hint that it is not dedicated vCores… only memory is 100% dedicated to the VPS

    20 vps = Total 160 gb allocated

4x Ryzen 9900x … even 50% dedicated would be an extraordinary deal for $9/month

8gb memory is another hint that it is not dedicated vCores… only memory is 100% dedicated to the VPS

    I think it's bs marketing

It's dedicated until it is not due to constant 24x7 cpu hit.
    Case by case evaluation

Most likely this will come to play sooner or later.

    I'll advice for berohost.

Same data center, similar hardware and exact same pricing but bandwidth will be much higher than famesystem. The fair usage IIRC is 2 TB I think. That was the only deal breaker for me. Otherwise famesystem is top notch provider.

For cheap price with high performance, there is also prohosting24 genoa servers (shared vps: 4C/16gb ram/200gb storage). Those are sold out but if you want one, you can open a ticket. If they have availability due to non renewal, they provide one.

What's your policy about CPU utilization ?

Well the CPU cores are obviously not dedicated.

If you are just going to compile your app sometimes and using 100% of the CPU for a couple of hours nothing is going to happen.

But if you are utilizing the CPU always at very high levels your CPU resources are going to be limited.

    Thanked by 1anakara
  • For windows users, nice little tool for limit cpu usage.

Just add the app in the list and adjust the parentage.

With Fame system, if you are outside EU, you can reduce VAT, they have 80% English/German portal(?), I had their support (responded by CEO/Owner), he changed from company to personal acc type, able to cut down 19% VAT, that literally gave me two months additional service (12 + 2 months) as I paid for 1 year ahead. Fame system is shared cores.

Why you don't take up netcup if you are up for longer period?

Ticket. I got my VPS via transfer in this forum. Then you can add up balance, before ordering a product, ensure to set yourself as individual over company. If you are from EU, Tax applied.
