    grep -c "^Host " ~/.ssh/config

how many do you guys have

    1. Two are to force ProxyJump through a specific host, two more are for systems where my login is ubuntu not ralf and always forget.

    The more useful metric is:

    $ wc -l ~/.ssh/known_hosts
    293 /home/ralf/.ssh/known_hosts

I see like 2-3 entries for each host there though, not sure how that file works but I don't think it's a good count?

    awk '{print $1}' ~/.ssh/known_hosts | sort -u | wc -l | tr -d ' '

Yeah, I don't know either. If you reinstall an OS, it normally complains that one key needs to be deleted before it'll continue and then it will keep warning about another one, so I delete that one by hand. So maybe 2 per host, but that's still a little high. I guess this is also every host I've ever used, so will count VPS I've long since got rid of.

It's worse than that. I see different key types and shit for the same IP's, even though that shouldn't be the case (if it was 1 line per host, which it's not in my case). Not sure as said. Try my above command. That command I get 11 as a response, same as my .ssh/config, and I know I have connected to the exact same machines.

Also 293, but printing $3 gives 120 which seems more plausible.

Weird, in my case I know 11 is right.

    awk '{print $3}' ~/.ssh/known_hosts | sort -u | wc -l | tr -d ' '

Yields 33 which I know is not right

Maybe it's formatted differently, I'm on macOS

That's cool but some users brought up some of their customers insisting things be within, not just 'EU neighbors'.

@emgh said: @Francisco do you this the above link is adequate to go Swiss and keep @hyperblast off your back?

Remember, this is likely to be the fork in the road between Namecrane and BuyVM. BuyVM will, god willing, probably go CH, and Namecrane will be in NL as our primary EU location w/ Cranemail.

With that being said, nothing stops Namecrane from adding CH as a satellite location where we rent a few U's from BuyVM to do shared/resellers. I'm not sure what demand we'd have, but we'd start with just a handful of nodes.

I guess this isn't really the question you're asking either (assuming it's "how many VPS do you have"), as I make heavy use of VMs which will inflate my count.

So, I have 16 VMs on my Hetzner dedi and 20 VMs on my OVH dedi, and maybe 12-15 VMs total across all my other larger VPS instances.

Problem is that so many people just insist on EU locations without any understanding of the actual laws in place, because they do not know any better.

tbh not even sure why I'm so engaged in this, if you'd lower my shared price by 2-3 bucks a year I'd be okay with being hosted in the Antarctic
