    Knowledge dump

IPV6 adoption in India is at 72% while for USA it is around 53%!

That is only because Jio enabled it from their launch, and they are the biggest ISP; 90% of ISPs still do not support IPv6, especially your local broadband players.

Why are ISP’s so slow on the uptake of IPv6? Isn’t in their interest to adopt IPv6 as fast as possible so they can stop paying the exorbitant prices of IPv4?

I asked my ISP when will I get IPv6 (just so that I can finally get a proper IP instead of CGNAT v4), and they asked me what IPv6 is xD
And it is honestly a lot of trouble, I think I saw PulsedMedia post a really detailed explanation of it somewhere here.

I'd imagine most ISPs outright own their IP space and it's not a cost that increases over time. They're likely just paying fees to ARIN or RIPE or whoever the organization is that oversees issuing space.

There is a TON of unused IPv4, a handful of big companies (and government agencies) have entire /8s, with each /8 being 16,777,216 IPv4 addresses... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assigned_/8_IPv4_address_blocks

  • It really sucks being behind CGNAT, but in my case no other option expect to pay additionally for a static IP.

Can't argue with that, even though I like IPv6. I know most of the IPv4 addresses I use by heart, but I don't think I will ever be able to remember even one IPv6 address, unless it's hexspeak like dead:beef::1.

Cloudflare is happy and keeps blocking me when I suggest elegant hostnames for IPv6 be added to your hosts file.
