The boards, from right to left:

EzSBC ESP32, used as power supply and for uploading bitstream to the FPGA.
MoCoMaker Fipsy FPGA.
4-channel logic level converter, to convert 3.3V signal from the FPGA into 5V signal needed by the WS2812.
WS2812 light ring.

WS2812 takes one-wire input signal that has specific timing requirements.
The colors are controlled by this signal.
When these colors show up, even if there's no animation, it means the timings are now correct.
