Depends on your region within India. If youa re in a city, yes, fireworks and drunk hooligans and all that stuff. If it's suburban or rural, no, not a lot of activity
Infact, each region in India have their own New Year's day which follows a different calendar. Thus, they don't fall on Jan 1
