I spy with my little eye... Gnight gents.
TomHarper leaves and Blembim shows up, coincidence?
I am just gonna seriously think about it first, the headache might really not worth it and because I am talking scaling it to probably 1000+ containers/users (at 128-256MB RAM each) with the amount of idling resources I have
Or I should just focus on my own project
would a 6700k handle this well?
got any abuse/complaints?
I have a lot of VPS/Dedi available... and we are talking about LXC not KVM anyway
I'd give the whole thing a good month or two, to think about all sides of it, plan, setup and test before you launch into anything if you do want to do it
Thankfully no, I'd like to think I'm pretty vigilant at picking out potential abuse cases before I accept sign ups and by keeping the user base small allows me to ensure that I have time to make sure users are abiding by TOS
brisbane location if u do pls, thnx
Best I can do is Sydney
Honestly if you're serious about doing something like that, I'd probably just straight up reach out to Neoon for some assistance/advice etc. I can only imagine them having to deal with all kinds of shenanigans over the years.
Considering how much they contribute overall to the LE* community, I doubt they'd just leave you on read
m y im love the price of brisbane dedicate servers!!

The future is fatnat.
And you asking me to fork $150 every month to give it out for free
I think another thing to consider is how complaint resistant your provider is before yeeting u off
. OVH is probably chill for most of the time but if it hetzner? For example

Yeah, abuse would be the big worry for me. That's the reason I jokingly mentioned he.net IPv6 tunnels before, so that people can sort their own copyright infringement issues out and just give me a wireguard thing to connect to for them. Not a chance I'd want to get involved with actually renting out a whole subnet and then dealing with all the abuse complaints.
check out this banger i found if you want to save $7 per month @FAT32

It's OK, this one is priced in monopoly dollars.
we australians accept payments in australian dollars or equivalent in tins of vegemite
One thing I'd like to add here is to start off with a limited signup. Maybe 20 users max. See how it goes for a couple months and then open the flood gated. That 20 users may give you a good idea what to expect.
Doing things first hand is different when on the providers side.
Abuse is just 1 part of the equation which many tend to focus. Abuse can come in an unexpected way, through an exploit/ backdoor , even with a very well vetted user. Other Abuse is chargebacks and incessant ticketing and expectations of immediate support from customers.
If it is me, I'd work on how to get most stuff automated so that when shit hits the fan, I am able to focus on the most important pieces like proper observability... are there things which you can implement as a DR to start off from scratch if your server goes kaput one day...
One thing no one likes, even with a few service or cheap service it going down... I know most users understand this but still.
Definitely a thing to decide is how much time is one willing to devote to this project. It's very easy to be sucked in and difficult to get away.
Thanks for listening to my TED speech.
My bed is calling me, save some deals for me while I'm asleep π
Just kidding, I know there won't be any deals
cope
Well as long as I don't accept payment there wouldn't be chargeback, also no ticket functionality so purely community support
Either way I agree it will suck all my time so better work on something I truly enjoy
Well said.
Would you mind sharing what you would truly enjoy and work on?
I like to put a smile on someone's face, while pursuing my interests in technology.
FAT32 bought Unixsocks.com from Sara and he's working on his Crypto token launch of $USOX
This thread's on steroids! A great way to celebrate the NY indeed!
