25$ can get me 1gbps/1gbps for consumer here, tho there is commitment contract for like 1-2 years i think, depends on provider

Yeah, I envy anyone who got Gbps speed for cheap.

My last provider charged me £40 for 500Mbps, but they increased the price by inflation+4% every year, so after 2 years they were already asking £45.

Switched to another company with 1Gbps for £35 per month fixed for 18 months - I'm not even sure if they're the cheapest but I have fond memories of back in the day when they used to hand out a /29 for free if you asked for it. All their plans currently have static IPv4.

Hopefully when I renew, we'll have 2Gbps available. It was supposed to have launched last year, but almost nobody actually seems to have it as an option yet.

Throw in banner ads :D :* anyway, thinking about dropping 5 of what I posted before for $20/yr then adding a task to add one to the stock and reduce the price by 17 cents every hour till new years? ( If stock = 0, every new hour on the dot )

So what will be the lowest price?

If my brain is working right it's 48 hours till new years yeah? Last one added to stock would be $11.84/yr.

Granted I set them up now, and stock is 0 before next hour so probably $12.01 instead :)

Interesting game... But who will be the first one to pick it for $20 ? Shouldn't it be other way round?

Just do a "dutch auction". Start price at $20 and drop it till it sells. This would drive people here crazy.

    I'm confused. Someone please explain.

The seller posts the price, say $20.03

If no one posts " Buy $20.03" in an hour, seller lowers price to say $19.13.
If no one posts "Buy $19.13" in an hour price is dropped again.
    Repeat until item is sold.
"Dutch auctions" are a real thing.

Is this because of the weed?

this is my favourite plan my provider offers (one of the most reputable providers in aus)

    Aussie Broadband!

    Was with them for years.

Still with them now just on the 250/25 plan for $129
Have been meaning to go back to Superloop for cheaper plan for 6 months but last time I was with them we had a lot of weird packet loss

Other than being about $10 or so too expensive on the plan I had (100/40 for FTTN), I’ve never had a single complaint about them. Great provider. I’m no longer with them as I moved to Origin Energy and found out shortly after that Origin’s broadband was actually whitelabeled Assie Broadband. Origin had the same plan for $10 less with 12 months of Paramount Plus, so I switched to Origin who were effectively Aussie still.

Late last year Origin announced they were moving from Aussie as a provider to Superloop. Was originally just going to go back to Aussie for the devil I know, but decided to give Launtel a go which is also rather well regarded. Used them for about a month or two and they were also great and maybe a few dollars cheaper than Aussie, but not by much.

However shortly after found out in the ACT that the old TRANSACT network has been updated to support g.fast on the old copper. Moved to Infinite Networks and getting about 340/45 or so on copper. Since it’s not NBN and Launtel supports it, I also have a line with Launtel that’s simply paused and I can activate the odd time I have issue with the TRANSACT connection. Works as an effective backup.

Unfortunately likely years until I get FTTP. With you being up north, I assume the prospects not much better given QLD drew a short straw on NBN also.

Yeah ok. Doing better than me, although others do much worse still. FTTN via NBN but fortunately I can max out the 100/40 for the tech. The g.fast I’m on has much better downloads, with negligible upload benefit. Hasn’t been as reliable but and as a technology it’s very very susceptible to line runs between the house and node.

I got HFC at my property in SE QLD, max speed at the moment is 1000/50 which we've had before on HFC but rumours I'm seeing thru AusNOG indicate that NBNco might be bringing higher upload speeds to HFC soon, something closer to symmetrical if not symmetrical around 400/200 - 400/400

Yeah ok. Doing better than me, although others do much worse still. FTTN via NBN but fortunately I can max out the 100/40 for the tech. The g.fast I’m on has much better downloads, with negligible upload benefit. Hasn’t been as reliable but and as a technology it’s very very susceptible to line runs between the house and node.

i've heard surprisingly good things about starlink in australia if you don't mind slight instability for 20 seconds once a day, i've got a friend who maxes out like 300 mbps on it most the time
