Is SugarHost going to run away?

A month ago, I saw SugarHost running a promotion, and despite the delays, I bought a virtual host for my website, but it is very slow. I applied for a refund the same day since they offer a 30-day refund policy, and I expected processing within that time. However, it has been 42 days now with no news. My ticket has not been answered, and it seems only sales personnel are working. They even closed my ticket without permission.

  • It’s always tough to know with these types of things, but I shall make myself another cup of coffee and try and do some research in their financials, and whether or not they are deadpooling, or if they are simply busy due to the holidays (which is entirely plausible, but certainly unacceptable if you’re serving customers globally). In any case, I shall post my findings shortly.

  • The operating company behind SugarHosts is Magic Particle Limited and it's incorporated in Ireland. It has been incorporated for the last 7 years, and its status is listed as "Normal". It's considered a micro company, and the accounts were last filed on 18/04/2024. But, that shouldn't be that big of a red flag.

Everything seems quite ok, and all of their IP's are still announced, the website seems to be operating OK. I would try and push for a refund, even by being annoying and emailing [email protected] and [email protected] and requesting for your ticket to be handled in a timely manner.

    So, email it to:
[email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

There are also the following numbers associated with Magic Particle Limited d/b/a SugarHosts:
    +44.2033224112
    0768886939

Also the following company POWER WIN GROUP CO., LTD which is owned by one "Bo Chen", a Chinese national residing in the UK.

God knows if any of those numbers are real/active, but they are from ARIN/RIPE records.

I suggest a copy like this:

    Dear Magic Particle Limited,
I am your customer $insert_legal_name_here and I have bought your service during the promotion that you ran on LowEndTalk/LowEndBlog and I have been completely and utterly unsatisfied with my server's technical performance.

I have been unable to host my website properly, as the i/o is simply too poor to handle any type of requests, let alone a live website.

Due to the aforementioned issue; I have applied for a refund the same day that I have bought the server, but unfortunately, my refund request was either overlooked (I am sure that this was due to human error, and/or too much work), but your company, Magic Particle Limited offers a 30-day refund policy, and I have submitted my refund request the same day, and due to the fact that my refund request is in fact a legitimate refund request, I would really appreciate if we could resolve this in a peaceful and amicable manner, without involving billing companies, partners, and anyone who would be interested to know that Magic Particle Limited d/b/a SugarHosts is either unable or unwilling to process a refund that was submitted the same day after the purchase for 42 days and counting.

Please let me know at your earliest convenience.

If I receive no reply, I will have to assume that you are simply unwilling to refund me, or unable to refund me, and sadly, I will be forced to escalate the matter. Even though the amount may seem small to you in Ireland (although you seem to be operating from the UK, and are originally from China?), it is not that small of an amount to me, and I would really appreciate to have my money back, because I believe that I have done everything correctly from my end:

    a) I submitted the refund request on the same day after I tested the VPS, and the node was simply too overloaded. Which implies that it's simply oversold, and unfit to host any website, period.
    b) I have waited for 42 days for a refund, and that speaks volumes regarding my patience.

But, everyone has their breaking point, and mine is here.

    Respectfully,
    $insert_legal_name_here

Good luck, brother. Hope it goes well!

I mean... sure... but they've been around... 2017 is quite some time, and they seem to be serving the Chinese market almost entirely, which isn't that big of a surprise. But, still.... I hate when businesses refuse to refund. For example, I always refuse a refund (no matter what), be it when I am at a restaurant, or it's an online service, I just say either keep it to yourself (don't tell the boss), or donate it to your favorite charity.

But it's absolutely horrendous the extent I had to go through when I had to deal with a fraudster when I missus booked some procedures, but couldn't make it at that specific date. In any case, such administrative tasks fall on me (obviously) as I am her secretary (how it should be) -- but, anywho, I forget to Google this woman and her business... she's nowhere to be found and we're talking nearly a grand, so it's not a small amount by any means.

She simply ghosts me, I email her all the receipts, explain the situation, tell her the she can't make it and that we want to re-schedule. She's like, oh, there's no such payment actually. You are mistaken... she should email me herself and try to see if she has the correct information (mind you; I am holding her phone in phone hand, and mine in the other, lol) and basically just refuses to do anything about it.

I find her processing company, call them up, get it all sorted... and icing on the cake, I find out she has a fraud conviction. Et voilà! Everything made sense now... some people man... it's not just the hosting industry. It's everywhere. Truly.

  • Hello towards all!

My service at Sugarhosts is down for weeks. I advise everybody to make a backup fast!

One should create backups regularly. Nowadays there is software to even encrypt backups in the cloud (Cryptomator).

  • I saw people reporting problems of them in FB groups weeks ago.

  • Your point is good, but it is in a signature. If I may, I shall draw your attention to the community rules, where it is clearly stated that signatures should be no more than 2 lines and should not distract others. If you could set that 3-2-1 rule in just one line, separated by commas, that would be great.

Apologies, totally forgot about that. Should be fixed now :)

  • are they still operational?

  • My VPS has been down for over 10 hours today, and their official website (https://www.sugarhosts.com/) won’t visit either. I paid $225 for a three-year plan, and there’s still one year left. It’s not exactly cheap, especially for just 1 core, 1GB RAM, and 20GB storage.

I’ve been using their VPS and dedicated servers for over ten years, but lately, the value has really gone downhill. I’ve been unhappy with the speed for a while, and I’ve already stopped renewing most of my services with them. This VPS is the last one I have left, and I’m planning to ditch it too once it expires.

Look around your house. You will find out that most of your belongings are "Made in China". Weather we like it or not, that country can be considered the factory of this planet. Just like corporations used China to make huge profits through cheap labour in factories there, we must respect the workers living there, because they are also humans, even though we might not like the ways of how different cultures behave.
