Ok. I'll get the bigger one.

The biggest you got. The Ryzennnn!!!

    That is.. 4G 5C.. :p

Love it. For the newer members, xpress got it upgraded to that level just using his giveaway wins on resource upgrades in the BF thread.

man i wish i would've won some of those upgrades :(

I was lucky enough to win 2 of those. Don't worry, there might be more on this thread

i do hope so, i was looking for those the most

Though Dustin hasn't explicitly mentioned resource GAs on the main post of this thread, I guess, with enough demand, anything is possible.

yeah this may be more so for the new years sales rather than resource gas this time around :(

Now, I am also considering cold storage solutions. However, it would not be realtime that way. Retrieving data would take a few minutes to a few hours. And sometimes even 24 hours in rare cases.
An example of this is Scaleway Glacier. Their storage pricing is €2/TB.
This would bring down my cost to €500/month at most.

Isn't that a huge price in itself just for storage?

Yeah, it's still a lot, but i don't think i will archive the whole internet at the moment. (maybe i will if the project grows to a serious level)

That's be the most sensible option at this point. Maybe do a section or category of websites first. Do you have any category or other criteria in mind?

I prefer forums and sites like stackoverflow, because content changes regulary.

    Stack overflow pretty toxic imo

But, they helped me a lot. They have been my go to since most questions I have, are already answered. But, you are right, some SO members can be unnecessarily brutal to beginners > @DeusVult said:

But can be 25 dollars max too...

One sure shot way to increase that budget is get RN credits

    They have storage VPS deals?

Not exactly sure. Here's another idea. There are reseller hosting offers on this thread from time to time as well. Win one of these. Make some money selling hosting to friends and use it to maybe colocate with RackNerd.

I also thought about selling hosting to friends even grabbed one offer but no one wanted to buy even though they all are cs students

    students have no mooney! :)

Depends. I had a decent amount to spend in uni. Worked a lot at the time to cover housing, utility and tuition. Was tough but doable

i was broke and also working. .every penny went straight to school payments

How many of you are still paying off student loans? Believe me, we got it much better in India.

just finished it off recently! some people go to schools that are like full blown resorts though then complain they are in debt

Oh yes that does happen. During the election times, I usually see tweets of people complaining that they are in their late 40s and still trying to pay their student loans back. How much of that actually reflects the ground reality, assuming you are from teh US?

i think a lot of people make poor choces. see that comment about going to resorts. These schools are way to fancy and are like living on a resort. The qulaity of living there is so high then people complain about being so in debt. There are smaller local colleges people can go to but its "uncool" so people pay 40x as much then complain when they are in debt.

Its undeinable though that LOTS of people have huge school loans but to a certain extent there is a choice they made to ge tthere

Oh I see. This is sometimes I love about this thread as well. I get to have real reviews from people around the world. Iesarn a lot. I do make it a point of not taking anything at face value from social media or media in general.
For example, FrankZ recently clarified it for me that the depiction of Juarez in a Hollywood movie was well, Hollywoodised

BTW if you don't mind sharing, where are you from? If I havent said it enough, I am from India.

I am from India too I thought you understood it from the way I was talking

Difficult to do that on the internet, dude. BTW, really good to see another Indian. So, we got about 4 Indians, 1 American (US), 1 Brazillian among active members ont eh thread, for now. Not sure where @BasToTheMax is from

His name is Ben, so he's probably american

    Not Ben.

    Or Israeli

Now, I am confused. Are we talking about Bas?

no its just a popular jewish name is all i mean

Oh yah. You meant Ben itself. Yah, Israel even has some famous Bens, the most important of them prolly being Ben Gurion.

What do y'all think about the idea of using cold storage i proposed earlier? (about scaleway glacier)

You might have to explain what cold storage is first. Sorry am a relative noob there

    Ah okay.
Cold storage is basically storage that can't be accessed in real-time. To retrieve a single file, it might take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours.

I have a weird idea here. Yes, having to wait for hours for an image isn't ideal for your website. So, is this something you could implement - Cache images on a regular basis to another server based on the requests they get such that the popular requests are made available faster?
Else, you could implement an email system where the person could request the screenshot and when it's ready you could notify the requester via their email.

Yeah. I was thinking about having popular websites in hot storage (accessible instantly) and unpopular sites (like ones that get maybe a view once a month) in cold storage. Also, requesting a retrieval will most likely pull the entire site from the cold archive, so you can browse other pages on the same site instantly once retrieved. Wow that was a long sentence

The other side. Here to reap.

Oh then, you could implement the hot storage idea for popular websites then.
