    Way back when I was lurking LET before even making an account, I snagged a lot of their deals. Hosted plenty of services without much to complain about. The website kinda feels like it is hosted on something they would have given away, but otherwise great.

    Idle hard :) nah, some part of cdn some DNS. Some websites. Sometimes it's easier to use a ded IP. Those small boxes can easily handle a low-end stack to host a moderate static website. Use two for redundancy and it's quite affordable for any hobby/low income project.

    Can't speak for Sara, but sometimes it's just nice to host everything on your own infrastructure.

    Different methods. Low-end solution; at the DNS level. Low TTL, take the resolving ip that's down out of the equation in case of downtime.

    Both CF and GH are perfectly fine but I like a bit more control.

    Agreed, it is nice to not be at the mercy of these services and their constant changes to what you are and not allowed to do.
