wow, thats ruppes right or usd? Is it based on commisson/sales or do you just have to pay them some sort of flat rate per month? Flat rate might be better if you can scale but wouldnt be nice if you dont do much in sales..
What do you mean? Spotify and Shopify are definitely interchangeable. 😋
WC being woocommerce right? Which would you recommend? Im looking for something to handle really low volume. Like maybe 2-5 trivial sales a month would work well for what i need
LOL! I, infact at one point thought he was related to the OG - Linux Torvalds.
Check this guy out: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6326097/dealing-with-amazon-product-advertising-api-throttle-limits
I figured it would be based on some sort of metric of how "valuable" you are to them as an affiliate
Is the fee they charge worth it though over woocomemerce? Say i want to setup a bake shop out of my home or something. Are these goood solutions to use?
I believe the same as well, but, can't blame all of it on them. API calls and that too constant ones can be actually heavy on these companies. But, this has the negative effect of blocking development of some good apps that could actually help these companies, just cause they decided devs with no money to spare shouldn't have acess to their APIs.
Thanks for the heads up kind firend. I forgot to do my daily on the racknerd winter giveaway. Hoping i win the TV there then perhaps i can retire here
I mostly have it set up so a user can input a Spotify link, and it grabs the tracks to create a playlist on YouTube. I know there are other solutions out there, but I don’t like giving third-party apps access to my accounts.
You make a good point. I’ll have to explore other options as well. Totally forgot about last.fm! Thanks!
This is cool. I never heard of this. Im down to join if others are doing it. Im not much of a "hacker" though but maybe that will give me some out of hte box thinking that might help.. is there a leaderboard there where we could watch or follow each other?
If you want a readymade solution that will save you a lot of headache with the setup and all, Shopify all the way. If you are ready to put the work in, coding plugins and themes and customising it heavily, WooCommerce is better and opensource. WooCommerce has the benefit of being highly customisable, but, if youa re looking for a quick way to get started, Shopify all the way.
Why retire, do join us from time to time regardless of the results of the Dec GA.
If you say so
I guess you can make pruchases from either one of those. Just very specific types of purchases. They are kind of similar but different, but still kinda the same
What on earth is this from. It seems oddly specific...
I see what you did there with the linux torvalds.
I much prefer the linus tech tips fellow though. he seems like a good guy and would be much more fun to hang out with. The real Linus though... well hes the real linus
yeah i imagine may companies would get bogged down fast if they opened up some of these apis. To some extent, the data that they do provide is their own creation so theres a cost to them also producing what they share on the apis.
Im surprised there are so many companies that do offer so much data through free apis though. There is some valuable stuff out there. Specfically in the crypto world surprised its so easy to get access to that data for free
LOL! That was unintentional. As for Linus, I do love the style of his videos, but, GamersNexus is my go to when making the final decision when it comes to buying PC components. Those guys test stuff really well and are capable of giving you unbiased opinions and don't hold back as well. I love Digital Foundry as well fro some professional opinions.
ah very cool. That sounds like a good pet project
YEah last fm is great and often forgotten. I used to have it linked to my spotify, not sure if you can still do that... Its interesting going on there and seeing what past me used to spend time listening to. There is definitly some interesting distinct phases in there.
For what its worth, i think a lot of it got locked down and turned into paid features. I would be surprised if you can get much info from any api they have for free
Shopify is stricly paid though right? Im ok with it taking some time. My projects always take for ever and its not super urgent, just another pet project for family. If woocomcerce is free and open source, i'll probably check that ou first. Too many blocking walls because of complications and i'll quickly jump ship to shopify if its that much easier. Just dont want to lose to much of what little profit potential it has due to shopify fees.
Oh yah, there are companies who do that. Infact most of them are generous with their APIs. But, even they have to place limits from time to time. I feel bad for the companies that completely block their APIs behind a payment wall. They might actually be missing out on business due to that, cause many devs with good standing on platforms like GitHub would then be averse to making apps for them.
Isn't this a Monty Python reference?
Oh yes, if it's not a business guaranteed to make money from Day 1, my personal suggestion is to maybe spend some time setting it up on WooCommerce, let the bsuiness catch some traction and then make a move to Shopify.
And yes, Shopify only has paid tiers, though they do offer a free trial. Maybe just try both of them for a little while before making the decision.
The one with Rowan Atkinson?
Ah i think your right based on the name of the gif. I've actually never seen monty python. They showed it in school at one point but I was never in the class that watched it. Think that would've been my only chance. I dont go back and watch too many old movies. Current tv series take up enough time as it is
At that point though, is it worth it to even move to woocommerce? IF the hardest part is setup, if i had it set up and running why not stick with it? Does it just end up not scaling as well and thats where shopify comes into play and really shines?
Yup. With Shopify there are multiple benefits for sure while scaling. When you do scale you won't have to concern yourself with the specs of the server for example, cause Shopify would already have taken care of that for you while your server might struggle when scaling WooCommerce
gotcha, that makes sense. Push the hosting and compute needs to their side and they can deal with it. I guess if it ever makes that amunt of money (pretty sure it wont) then it would make sense to go with shopify. They i can also pass the blame for some of the problems to their side. Pay for the peace of mind
This, imo would be the approach I choose as well. If you are sure that the specific product in mind doesn't have a huge market use WooCommerce first. Let me know if you need any help during the process of setup. I have had some experience though very minimal with WC.
