    It is the kind where you join membership to get additional discount.

    (All numbers are fake to not dox myself but it shows the point)

    • Original item price: $200
    • Membership cost: $20

    • Final price: $180 (Saved $20 for the company in total!)

    But then because membership cannot be claimed, so I can only claim $160. Basically I spent $20 out of my own pocket to save company $20, on hindsight I shouldn't have thought of that but I think I blundered on that one.

    Yeah, companies can be shit like that.

    One place I worked at, I used to have to travel to Germany regularly for a week at a time. On the specific flight I took, the plane was tiny and the difference between first class and economy was such side of a moveable curtain you sat. So the first class were priced at £1 more than the regular tickets. The company refused to pay the extra £1 to upgrade me, even though that would have meant I had access to the lounge before the flight, and could have had free snacks. I countered by maxing out my expense budget on breakfast instead, but I never was allowed the upgrade. Out of principle, they only let director level fly first class.

    It's taken me years to realise that if you're employed by a large company, it's not friend. The relationship is purely transactional. You do work, they pay money. If they decide they don't need you, you're gone. No matter how hard you worked in the past, how much money you saved them, how productive you were. If someone on the leadership team wants you gone, you're gone. Same with their benefits. They're a carrot to dangle in front of you, to make sure they get their pound of flesh.

    Fuck the company. Take of yourself.
