Shutdown is the best neighbor, but that goes too far.

You'd be surprised at how many people purchase VPSes and don't even bother to install them. To date, we have over 60 VMs with allocated resources, sitting for over 30 days, with no OS installed on them. Truly defining idling resources.

Those are the best customers to have

Honestly, we'd rather at least they install the OS. In the past, when someone has bought and not even installed and OS for >128 days, we ask them if they'd like a refund so we can re-provision the resources if they don't want/intend/need to utilize them. Some people simply forgot they paid for it, some had a project die, and almost all appreciate that we asked them.

No one has ever asked me that 😢 & I have had dozens of vps idle to oblivion, regretting why I got them in the first place.... Nice to know hosts like u exist

More than likely DNS hasn't propagated fully yet.

[Edit] n the midst of trying to spin a bunch of plates I had a server reprovisioned so had to change the answers in the dns records.

I idled one of their NAT VPS for several years, up until they discontinued it a few years ago. Something like a 40GB HDD and unmetered BW @ 250Mbps for $2.99/year. As I recall, it idled well.
