It's nice. Yet somewhat disturbing. My six year old does that dance. Time to limit screen time.

    O dear lord.
    For real?

Yes for real. She navigates through TikTok like a pro. Uses ai to edit her videos. Thank got that shit Doesnt get published.

"Australia will ban children under 16 from using social media, after its parliament approved the world's strictest laws."

    How will anyone enforce this?

Did it ever work for the Porn sites? How hard is it to respond to the question "Are you over 18?"

Plus the minds are trained for mindless scrolling.. 16 years is too long of a habit to break.

Maybe the social media companies call it a day? But where will the boomers get their news source?

Sorry I get on the ted talk mode sometime

But in all seriousness this is a condition which is just not easy to tame.

No worries. I fool around a lot but this is a serious issue. Toddlers are being prepped by the likes of Cocomelon and such.

You think it's harmless. It's not.

Then there's youtube. It consumes the human soul of our children. Not even taking into consideration TikTok.

There are positives. I have a lot of foreign family so it's easiest to communicate in English or German. Freakin 6 year old learned most online. She can conversate in German and English fluently.

    Insanity.

    The pluses are there.
But somehow I feel the negatives outweigh the positive at a grander scale

There needs to be responsible and collective action. But definitely not something a government should dictate. They usually seem to lack the collective eill to do good.

I don't blame parents as this allows them to get some personal time and to get some things done. Someone may take thus the wrong way but it is what it is.

Most definitely. I'm at 45 min/day screen time max. That includes playing Roblox :)

Again, insanity. Sometimes I'm thinking about moving abroad, going off the grid. I love Scandinavia so yeah... Who knows.

Fortunately my kid loves loves being outdoors, messing about with whatever. Stirring up shit with the neighbours :) she'd love that space and freedom which you don't have here, or is quite unaffordable here. The dog would probably also love it.

I think it's interesting that the closer one is to IT, the more protective one is of their family towards IT. I don't let my kids near social media, or even unsupervised YouTube. They can have curated content from a local Tube equivalent.

Steve Jobs didn't let his kids use an iPad.

my kids have them but with lots of restrictions. no real network access unless it's approved. limited times of use (mostly travel). no social media, etc. It's a no brainer to be very very careful with them.

Too many restrictions birth rebellion. And I completely agree with you: people involved in IT seem to rightfully fear what technology does to people.

Definitely agree with that. All the people I know who had strict parents completely went off the rails as soon as they went to uni and had no restrictions on them at all.

    This...

Being super restricted for the initial years
And when tasted what freedom is, spiraled completely opposite.

There has to be a balance . Too much or too little can cause trouble almost ๐Ÿ’ฏ

my kids have them but with lots of restrictions. no real network access unless it's approved. limited times of use (mostly travel). no social media, etc. It's a no brainer to be very very careful with them.

I am biased but this sounds to me like at some point the dam will overflow. I'm not sure which is better - oversheltering or overexposure to dangers. A very thin line to walk, and each directuon has pros and cons

The nice thing is that as they age, the restrictions loosen bit by bit so hopefully when they are on their own (college or otherwise) they'll know how to survive in a healthy way in the digital age.
