TrK got his sleep? Or going to sleep

    He slept?

Most prolly. He is known to be a night owl.

He didn't sleep the entire night.

Yup, pulling an all-nighter is tough. Did that last year.

Not good for health though. Did it couple of days last year on some project. Got sick after few days.

Yah, at times you get so damn used to it, that you become delusional about it being perfectly healthy. Most of the times, it's not.

I slept like 2 hours a day for an entire week. :(

I have done that during exams.

I think most of us do that before exams. Atleast backbenchers. ;)

Yup, studying at the 11th hour is a special skill we had.

And forget everything before exam, because lack of sleep.

Never faced that. I performed best at the 11th hour.

If we can perform that much in one night, Imagine if we read the entire year.. 🤣

I sometimes think about it. And, then, decide against it, cause I don't wanna be an overachiever.

Next year maybe, we will have a Strix in the pool.

If business is good, maybe I'll upgrade and offer up my used one next year in some kinda of raffle. Would be easier to get a used model through customs I imagine!

What if I shipped it all torn apart, and the winner had to assemble it? :p

Tearing apart laptop? worst nightmare. :'(

It's actually fairly easy to reassemble in most cases, unless you don't desolder anything.

I am bad at hardware soldered hardware.

Me as well. I try to stay away as much as possible, but recently I have taken an interest to it

    You soldered anything recently?

Yup, a router and my Android box.

Router? what did you solder in that?

UART. It helps you get shell access to any device that supports it.

    You are back.

A computer store near me has this wall of motherboards, so cool.

And just look at all these Linksys WRT series routers!

Probably acquired them when someone ran outta business.

They've been around for a while and love to collect like me, so we get along quite well.

Ahh, are these on sale BTW, the routers, esp?

They're mostly for display in the shop, but maybe if I asked really nice.

Here's my setup for the big RackNerd thread of 2021 :D

Woah, that's impressive, man. That green lit keybaord an HP Pavillion gaming?

    Yeah that's my 2019 HP 15Z, Ryzen 5 1050ti. Not a bad little rig for $450!

"Not a bad" is an understatement. That laptop had great thermal management (both hardware and software) for the price it retailed for.

Oddly enough the reviews from Best Buy said the exact opposite, but I snagged it anyway and mine is excellent still to this day. Probably fixed the cooling issue with a BIOS update by the time I purchased it, I guess the fans weren't kicking in when they should have been?

I was able to play Cyberpunk 2077 on it with no problems when it released, when people with much higher end hardware were complaining of constant problems, so I was happy with my choice.

I see, maybe you got one of the very first generations. Pavillion series you own was later famous among gamers for badass thermal management.

My first laptop was compaq. 2GB ram, pentium. 5kg weight.

    Whatever happened to Compaq?!

    Absorbed by HP.

Yup. That was solid laptop though. Service was also good at that time.

I have an old Compaq sitting in my mom's garage somewhere, probably only a handful of years newer than that IBM Thinkpad. I should go get it and see if she will still boot.

I think it will. Mine still turns on. Screen damaged but can see some gibberish on it.

Still own the old Compaq? Remember how much you got it for?

Not working. Just have it in a box. I think I got it for 32K at that time.

Didn't know laptops were that cheap in those days.

Cheap? Noooo. 30k was big amount at that time. Dont forget the inflation.

Oh yah, completely forgot about that. I was talking about the amount I was quoted for a low end laptop when we got our first desktop PC in 2004. They quotes us 60K for a low end laptop.

60k at that time is like 3L now may be. I mean the purchasing power. :D

Yah, that was a very huge amount back then. Got my desktop at the time for around 35-40k.

    Almost same. 35k includes a 4.1 sound system. 256MB ram, 40gb hdd.

Yah, I believe I had a similar setup. Only that they decided to get me Win 98 with it, not even XP.

Me too. Never been a fan of cricket my whole life (Yes, I was an anomaly among friends). But, still watched it for Sachin, Ganguly (Dada), Sehwag, Dravid, etc. and the gang. Since their retirement, I believe it has degraded.

I was a big fan of cricket as kid though. Used to play a lot. I had posters of Ganguly in my room. Everyday morning I woke up by looking at his poster.

And a pocket calender in my pocket with his pic.. those sweet memories..

Used to play cricket for hours on an end as a kid. But, never watched matches.

You get the Nitro, you ain't touching my Strix. :p

UART. It helps you get shell access to any device that supports it.

    which router it is?

Amplifi HD. It's a friend's that I got to tinker with, cause he wasn't using it.

    Seems like a costly one?

No, pardon me if I gave that impression. I was just talking about your spirit. Nothing can stop you from reaching that laptop, despite your busy schedule.

    I was kidding. 🤣🤣

 Got plans for the laptop BTW?

Don't have any plans.. will try to be active daily. Need to do lots of coding though. WIll try to manage.

Within a few days, you will be able to juggle both perfectly.

    I know you'll be back. :p

Will be back, but not like this frequent.

    Me too.. ocassional visits.

All in all we gotta make sure that the thread stays active.

Sure.. I will be here time to time..

    That's good.

    Over qualified

Yah, don't wanna be that as well.

Unfortunately though, for you, you will have more competition. Remember, harder the battle, sweeter the victory.

    Ha ha true that.

Anyways, you got the caliber to get the gaming laptop.

Ha ha I will try though.

Btw you received the credits? how much it was? I just received mine , seems dustin is active.

Yah, received it a few minutes ago as well, ig. It's $850, the retail Amazon price of the gaming PC, same as the laptop that's on 1st in this thread.

Cool. All the best for your plans on RN servers.
