    I have to say nothing beats the convenience and reliability of Synology yet... the complain is weak CPU and Synology seems to deprecating a lot of features lately.

    What part of 'set and forget' are you hoping for that you wouldn't be able to get from one of the refurb PCs you already have? (I am in no way discouraging spending those dolla dolla bills).

    Well I dont want my linux ISO to be publicly available.... the price you pay for Synology is basically the software and updates for the next 5-10 years so thats where the "set and forget" comes from

    Just have a lot of poor experience using HDD docks with anything that actually tries to utilize more than 1 HDD at a time.
    Don't want to have to connect to some server every 2nd week to make sure my drives are still online and detected by the OS because some $13 dock connected through USB decided to disconnect for .3 of a second 8 days ago and never reconnected.

    Okay my next question is I found this on Aliexpress and it has a J4125 in it for half the price of a Synology NAS.

    What are the odds the definitely not spyware OS that comes preinstalled on this badboy can be removed and replaced with TrueNAS or Unraid or something of the likes?
