Yeah, upside would be that it leaves a lot of room for expansion. I'm currently thinking about naming them by Beatles song.

Used to do name.service.domain.tld. could simplify that to letitbe.domain.tld. but would need a spreadsheet to tell me where letitbe is hosted at and what it's doing.

I'd start with Beatles The One album. 25 songs give or take. I did that actually almost a decade ago and my monster vps at that time had hostname YellowSubmarine. The first dedicated was HeyJude, followed by PennyLane, PaperBackRider....

Yeah, that would make for some sexy looking hostnames imho.

Great album btw. Got it on vinyl. Have a lot of original pressings also. Most are idling :D

This was my first Album I bought ever... after I heard Hey Jude at my friends place.

So coming back, so my hostnames are 2 stepped...

First, these fancy, weirded names I set as the core hostnames and have a dns pointing to the main ip.
Next I have cname which identifies the finer details of the service

Like bos.prod.db01.mydomain.com... in that way I get to enjoy both of the worlds...

Really? Cool. I'm probably a bit older but I meet people nowadays, no clue about the Beatles. All into APT. I mean, the dance is nice n all, andbI know the Geography, blame my kid. But you know, Beatles, that stuff ulis next level.

I digress... Like your thinking. Best of both worlds using cnames!

I think I'm done though. Bought over 20 Vms. Wishlist fulfilled.

Show us ur shopping spree. Give us a list.

That would take a while to compile I'm afraid :D

My list is pretty short this year. Tried to stick to under 10 Dollah

Nice deals. Missed out on the Heartbeat deal unfortunately but did order 10 of those hostsailor boxes.

Gonna need a new hostname system as I'm running out of names. Thought about going country-city-number but that looks rather dull to me.

Do you give male name to your machine like we do with ours lady hostname ? lol

Wait, should I as a male not give storage names like Troy and Abed?

I've finally found my community that loves community 😉

Maybe cup size? Depending on specs of the server?

There was a time when I used names of Greek gods for my vps then I mistakenly nuked a vps thinking it was some other vps when I mixed the gods 🤣🤣 then I moved onto LOTR characters & now I'm sticking with my scheme above. It has so far been better.

Totally agree... I listen to the Beatles whenever I feel it s need to go back to simpler times or just be with myself for some time.

Actually, they are a few ones that I actually understood the lyrics at that time (being a non native speaker). Stood in queue for their CD in a BF sale for a couple bucks or so... more than 2 decades ago..

So gave me another level of love and appreciation for dem

    More sustainable 1000 dealz:

1000% CPU at 1000MHz each (delivered as 10 cores each throttled to 1GHz, open ticket to replace with 3 dedicated cores at 3.3GHz)
1000MB RAM (comment invoice number to bump the memory to 1000% i.e. 10GB)
    1000GB SATA SSD
1000GB monthly transfer on 1000 Mbps port
1000x /64 subnets (routed /54 but the last 24 subnets are blocked in firewall)
1000 pennies per 1000 hours (invoiced as $21.91/quarter)
IPv4 costs an additional 1000 pennies per 1000 days (invoiced as $0.68/quarter)
