What do you actually do with your VPSs? I had a portainer cluster managing various self-hosted things, then got bored. So now I'm rebuilding it with NixOS, because I can never remember how I configured things.

I want to use it, build some cool projects around them, but the reality tells me that I am no longer a young kid with no responsibility attached, I can no longer do whatever just for fun without consequences. I need to work to earn money, I need money to maintain a relationship and form a family...

I still buy electronic components because I like to tinker around them, but reality is I never even opened the box of so many microcontrollers that I purchased. I can see the old me is dying bit by bit.

Switching to key-based login is indeed much better because I found that the SSH on my New Zealand VPS is being brute-forced through port scanning by malicious actors.

Move your sshd to a high numbered port.

My advice is to schedule when and how you can enjoy doing this. Even if you don’t have so much time that you can just do it whenever, if it’s something that you enjoy, you’ll be able to make it fit in somehow.

Be present in your relationship and in your family, but don’t lose yourself to either.

Thank you. I am still trying but everytime when I feel like I have a bit of time, it ends up not being able to finish anything. My time is quite fragmented but I prefer focus for the whole big chunk of time. I am bad at context switching.

I kinda did do something I enjoy already recently, basically this thread is the proof.
