Is Hetzner unbeatable?

I have the following setup on Hetzner:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900
HDD2x SSD U.2 NVMe 1,92 TB Datacenter
RAM4x RAM 32768 MB DDR4 ECC = 128GB
1 GBit uplink with it unlimited traffic

50 euros per month

It works great, but I'm looking for a similar deal with another provider for a second one. Especially because I just read some awful reviews about Hetzner on Trustpilot that scared me a lot.

Thank you for your advice.

  • I can offer you an Athlon 2800+ for that price. Sound stellar enough? Also it needs only ATA commands, so no AHCI or NVMe, and also it runs as my space heater.

If you've received great service from them, why are you concerned about a trustilot review? They are a very well known and reputable provider.

Let us know if we can help. Thanks!

  • You go with Hetzner until you can afford better, instead of getting a second one consider upping your budget to 100 euros a month and dropping Hetzner completely - this is a risk mitigation business decision not a devops performance decision

  • Yeah, based on deals I've seen on LET, that is a sweet gig you've got there.
But, I think US-based datacenters may provide similar deal with a 10Gbps port.

Is Trustpilot reliable for this sort of thing? I understand they have a lot of fake reviews, but I could be wrong.

Generally, but with hosting specifically, people only leave TrustPilot reviews when they’re angry, so it means nothing.

The only other explaination for good reviews is that the company really tries hard to send happy clients to Trustpilot to leave a review, or, the reviews are fake.

    Generally.

What may suprise people is that Hetzner even is quite profitable if I remember correctly.

  • Hetzner is the best choice but only if you won’t need a 10G port.

  • @emgh said: The only other explaination for good reviews is that the company really tries hard to send happy clients to Trustpilot to leave a review, or, the reviews are fake.

It's my understanding that writing a review requires creating an account. So I can see a business fighting an uphill battle to get clients to write positive reviews.

I think Trustpilot offers a streamlined way for providers so send ’authorized links’ for people to leave reviews as verified clients. Requires name etc. Not sure if that creates an account. It probably does.

  • A host asked me to write a review this year. Having to create an account at Trustpilot was the main reason why I declined.

  • Yeah, the only platform I leave reviews is a hotel booking app, because it's painless to leave reviews and they give you "gold coins" which amount to a few cents a time. Financially, it's not worth it, but because it's easy I'll happily take a few seconds to leave a review somewhere I didn't like (but will rarely score them all that low unless they were really terrible), but will spend ages writing a great review for a place that was amazing. That only happens for about 1 in 5 hotels I stay in though.

But if there were hoops to jump through, like creating another account for it, I just wouldn't bother, even if it was the best hotel I'd ever stayed in. Just not worth the hassle.

  • Best is the enemy of the good. If it works well - do not touch it...and the price is good.

  • At this price point Hetzner is flawless, as is the network and stability. In the European region, I think Hetzner is as good as ever, and it's likely you won't find a better deal anywhere else.

  • So, basically, the answer is yes... Hetzner is unbeatable.

In terms of pricing, network and uptime, its unbeatable. Thats what i have observed and I am their long time customer. But in terms of DMCA issue which may have been caused by one of your customer, they are really strict. They have literally no tolerance policy for that.

  • Unbeatable, even for me. The cloud panel they have is truly cutting-edge. The price seems aligned. They are the first to scrape the bottom of the barrel; for me, there are no valid competitors to Hetzner in Europe.

  • I do look for hetzner alternative, for daily dedicated server, I mean, I will have dedis for 5 or 10 or 15 days, not more than that. Hetzner seems to have muscle power. As many providers are seems resellers from DC.

I tried them once with a VPS in the €5/mo range, benchmarked it, found it quite mediocre, absolutely positively not top-class, not even worth its cost ... and continued to stay away from Hetzner.

Also they seem to not give a flying fuck about user's rights, etc. and as they are really big they can afford to and get away with it.

Granted, one can get from almost no other provider dedis at Hetzner like prices but I'll happily pay €10 or €20 more per month to be, putting it in a picture, a happy cow on a normal farm than being one of thousands in an "agro-factory".

That said I think that one shouldn't care about trustpilot and similar sites but rather do what OP did, collect views from actual customers (although LET is full to the brim with Hetzner fanboys ...).

  • Since it's an Hetzner related thread, does anyone know if upgrading ram from non-ecc to ecc count as customized or not?

It does not work - I mean it does not help much to convince a customer to write a review, unless they are angry.

I believe it would, since the servers they have on standby don't have ecc so they need to go and add it specifically for you. That said there may be a slim chance they have an ecc server lying around to give to you. but I wouldnt bet on it. The only way to ensure immediate delivery would be to order without the ecc and then contact them asking them to add the ecc at a convenient time for you.

  • Just to chime in. Free KVM-Console save me so much money. Plus low prices made me choose Hetzner

I compare it to steaks. I eat a lot of steaks. For a nice 'choice' or 'select' grade steak, go with Hetzner. Nice taste, good quality, mostly good price, you know what you are getting. If you like 'Prime' steaks, look elsewhere. A connoisseur knows when to eat which

Edit: To all vegetarians and Vegans - No offense meant.

Sounds funny to say "steaks" instead of "steak" there. It's like saying, "I compare it to beefs. I eat a lot of beefs".
