Server for Solana RPC Node
I am looking to rent a server to deploy a Solana RPC node.
Network:
- Stable 10 Gigs/s or better (1G/2G/5G is not enough, 10G is non negotiable, if the network is slow or is blocked by multiple ISPs, nothing will work, so please let's not waste each other's time)
- No overhead of services that block legit node traffic coz they detect it as ddos or something.
- Bandwidth requirement: 100-150TB a month (Other nodes are operating within 100 TB)
- Traffic should not be blocked by ISPs, traceroutes should be clean.
Specifications:
CPU - There are too many options out there, depends on what you can provide..
- Make: AMD with support for AVX512f
- Base Clock: 4.1+ GHz
- Boost Clock: 5+ GHz
- Cores: 24c/48t or more
- Set to Performance mode (both via bios and OS, No throttling)
- Top notch cooling solution to deal with high performance and keep temps in check.
RAM: 192GB DDR5 or more with ECC (higher frequency preferable)
Disk: 3x 1TB Crucial T705 Gen 5 or better (High TBW)
OS: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Location: Amsterdam - If you have all the specs, but in a different location, hmu, I will check if the location is viable.

Comments
192GB should be insufficient.
Without indexes it works fine around 120GB, but yeah, I don't mind 256/512/768GB
In fact, I don't mind any spec as long as the node syncs and doesn't lag.
Hello!
We have a dedicated server plan, which was created via recommendations for Solana RPC node.
$399 / month
CPU: Dual Gold 6138
RAM: 512GB DDR4
Drive: 2TB NVMe
Bandwidth: 1Gbps
IP: 1
IPMI: v.2
Free Setup: ✓
24×7 Support: ✓
https://vsys.host/crypto-node
We can even make a custom build with an Intel CPU.
Thanks for reaching out, but the server spec listed here is insufficient for Solana RPC.. Even if I was willing to test the setup, the 1Gigabit connection itself is no good and won't work. I have been running nodes on 2x 10 Gigabits of Teraswitch and it still struggles at times of high activity.
well i also need one if u all have good deals same location
Base Clock: 4.1+ GHz
Boost Clock: 5+ GHz
Cores: 24c/48t or more
I may be wrong but I believe Threadrippers are the only CPUs that meet those specific requirements.
I'm not super familiar with Solana so I'm unsure if this is feasible but; if you're able to spread your load over 2x Ryzen 7000/9000 servers then that should be substantially cheaper for you and open up to more providers that can make offers?
No you are not wrong, i believe that's why not much offers from providers here. Since he/she required more than 192GB RAM, Ryzens 7000/9000 supports max 192GB.
Maybe the OP could fix the requirement either of base clock of 4.1+ GHz or more than 192GB RAM/CPU cores/threads.
I would suggest a base clock of 4.5Ghz and 512GB RAM with a 40Gbps port
You're right and my bad, I will correct the requirement.
I have tried running multiple 7950x, but they keep lagging, that's why I am looking for something a lot more powerful. I understand that Thread-ripper is the ideal candidate but I don't see many available in locations of interest.
I have a few DMs about 4th Gen Genoa Servers, looking into them. Already have a 9274F that struggles to keep up with the network, but people are suggesting that its a beast so maybe the one I got has some other hardware issues or something. idk.
If you guys have any experience running Geyser Boxes for Solana - an RPC node (either Agave or Jito) that's purely used for Yellowstone GRPC (or Jito's implementation of Yellowstone GRPC plugin) please let me know what systems work best for such a setup, I am trying to figure it out.
Yes, I will reduce the base clock a bit, I realize that was a mistake.
Please suggest the server and provider for the same please
on it my man, as soon as I have something i'll shoot you a DM
Anyway, looks like I cannot update the post, so in case you're reading this, I am open to any CPU that can maintain an all core boost clock speed of 4.1GHz and above under heavy load.
That's the only change.
Have you found a suitable server? I am also attempting to rent such a server to build a Solana node. Currently, I have leased an EPYC 7662(64 core max 3.3MHz) @ 2G port. However, it appears unable to catch up with the latest slot. Upon reviewing the profile, both CPU and memory usage, bandwidth, are not fully utilized, yet it fails to synchronize with the latest slot.
The 2G port is not gonna work, upgrade it to 10G, and set the scaling governor to performance mode.
I have observed that the network does not seem to require such a vast amount of bandwidth. When I set up the node, the download speed was around 400 Mbps, while the upload speed was around 300 Mbps.
If you want, you can share the validator startup script via DM and I'll see if there's anything wrong with it that's slowing you down.
But if your script is valid and you're using agave client v2.0.18, then the only issues I can think of are
1. CPU Clock speed is not fast enough
2. Network is not fast enough.
Both of these seem reasonable given the information you've provided. Also, the speeds you were observing are probably coz your server was limited to 2 Gigabits which means a max speed of around 250 Megabits, Solana node does struggle whenever the speed goes below 5 Gigabit, that's why I ask for 10Gs or even 20Gs when buying new servers.
I have setup around 20 different RPC nodes till now and currently maintaining 5 of them, and whenever the Node struggles, the Network is also slow. Can't be a coincidence.
I am looking to test faster CPUs, DDR4/5 ECC Memory, with Million IOPS R/W NVMe. If you want to discuss further, we can chat via DM.
Out of interest, roughly what income can you make from running a Solana node? Genuine question
From running a node, almost nothing, but if you have other tools that make money, it is worth the effort to have your own node coz paid/public nodes are generally overused and don't have the same effectiveness.
Also looking for one, let me know if you found something please, feel free to DM me.
It looks like there is a few of us looking for the same thing pretty much. Maybe we should create a group and brainstorm and network this through. What do you think?
So you're the OG of RPC here by the looks of it. I'd love some pointers if you don't mind. Can I DM you?
Do let me know if you find something that comes close to that spec!
