@emgh Zoom in to see the connections they have in different WAW dc and how the connections are saturated.

Otherwise this may be more interesting:

    https://waw1-oza.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=EMEA.AS5617-2

(by the way the data of this example does NOT look good at all...., others like this one: https://waw1-oza.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=EMEA.AS8374 do look better)

(you will find different DCs in the top menu and than look out for ASN/ISP you are interested in on the left)

Thanks, but isn't all this mostly temporary? Or does it help me decide on long-term DC?

Pay them, OVH need a loan with 0% interest :)

The weathermap shows you peerings and transits, the smokeping may help in finding the DC with the lowest ping to your ISP (and will also show the stability of the connection, e.g. overcongestion in evening hours).

E.g. if you check Telia for Sweden https://lil2-gra.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping??&target=EMEA.AS1729&; you will see that e.g. LIM and SBG are slightly better than the DCs GRA or RBX (just change the DC link at the top menu while keeping the target EMEA.AS1729).

  • and too bad the smokeping by OVH does not show the worst connection I've ever found on OVH: OVH London to GTT London. It's routed via peering.cz peering in Prague. >45ms latency instead of <2ms latency.

@OhJohn the only individual route that would matter would be Cloudflare, visitors are global but all traffic is routed through there

    https://waw1-oza.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=ANYCAST.AS13335-3

    https://lil2-gra.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=ANYCAST.AS13335-3

    WAW > GRA?

  • KS-A still has not received a refund, and KS-LE-1 has not been delivered.

Looking at buying a dedi and I must say the BF & CM deals SUCK

Even the regular non-offers are more tempting

    Or am I missing something?

@emgh said: the only individual route that would matter would be Cloudflare, visitors are global but all traffic is routed through there

Than I would go with GRA or RBX as OVH has direct connections with Cloudflare in Paris (PAR-PA2 on weathermap).

Looking at the weathermap.ovh.net I also see one at WAW-WA1, but the traceroute at the smokeping https://waw1-oza.smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping?target=ANYCAST.AS13335-3 shows that 1-x connection at I do not know how stable that one is (smokeping looks good as well but I would assume that the direct connection in Paris is better). And Paris would also be better for e.g. cloudflare connections going out west (US/Canada etc.).

Weathermap shows five connections to Cloudflare in Paris (had been only 2 or 3 some minutes ago?), all pretty busy with ~30% utilization but in WAW-WA1 currently I see only one connection (but that one not really busy outgoing).

So from here it looks like OVH has a big CF peering in Paris on multiple connections that are used quite well but it seems as if they can scale and have more than one there.

Edit: and GRA has also the better connection to OVH London pop where they have some more direct CF connections.

Rise-LE-2/3 are not bad and if you need storage SYS-LE-3 is solid but everything else stinks tbh

I think they extended it till the 11th (not 100% sure) as for restock you're best joining a notifier tg like @yopp has or setitng up your own if you can be assed...

Well. OVH is a different league with their specials and promos. Depending on the use-case, even the regular pricing is fine.

But we had some great Flash-/ CM-/ BF-/ Specials. Just the one today with 130$ per year. Also a couple 99$ ones… but I’m sure you know that, considering your involvement in the topic 😘

Just the regular pricings with higher availability are…. Meh. But tbh., I love my providers to be sustainable and well. 😅

//Edit: My bad. I thought you meant in general. But yeh, OVHs specials for those dates were crap.

Thanks, yes, GRA is for sure a much bigger DC with a lot more traffic. Multiple connections isn't bad.

Feeling ready to order but I hesitate because @TomasSystems might have some very good take just as my order is confirmed :D

What was the name of that stupid crypto coin again where you had to do I/O writes for mining? Looks like the LIM dc was not fast enough in spotting those offenders and now we get those disks as they are running low on parts. But for a Rise, even if it's a LE one, these disks are not acceptable.

Considering my Kimsufi has 110TB / 10TB you'd expect RISE to be alot better...I mean you can request a replacement but thats a lottery in itself with OVH :D

Obviously thats not every server...but its seen several with high high numbers for RISE servers i think its pretty poor

so you're saying if I get the GAME-1 that would be very much considered a contribution to LET?

Yes i havent actually seen any yabs for these yet

    regards

Ok I'll go get a redbull and if the Rise-LE-2/3 still don't have stock when I'm back, I'll order and YABS a GAME-1 for you

This is for you not for me

I took the Rise-LE-3 haven't seen it back in stock evert yet, only downside was Gen3 on NVMe (would be a bit faster if I wasn't running it on ZFS) got the 10gb down with it, asked them and they pretty much told me it was a lottery both are possible.

Beside that a very good server nonetheless both disk with only 10k/40k hours and 400tb write on both

What was the name of that stupid crypto coin again where you had to do I/O writes for mining? Looks like the LIM dc was not fast enough in spotting those offenders and now we get those disks as they are running low on parts. But for a Rise, even if it's a LE one, these disks are not acceptable.

Was it the chia epidemic? It starts like chiasse which in French means getting the runs, so it was easy to remember.
