HostBrr | BF Storage Deals - EPYC 10 Gbps Storage VPS - DirectAdmin Storage Boxes 500GB €7/year!

Comments

  • Getting around 5MB/sec using rclone to the ftp2 server (from a VPS with plenty of bandwidth, on large files). Meaning around 56 hours to load 1TB initially.

Not the best speed, but I don't mind, it's for a secondary cloud backup.

  • @govac8 said: any coupons for CM available (like in 2023 event)?

@labze any chance you reply to this question?

    In terms of pricing comparison:

    • around a third of a Hetzner Storage Box, which will have better RAID resilience, backups and speed, but no web front-end. From my VPS, getting 20 to 30MB/sec (so 6 to 10 times faster)
    • about half of the cost of iDrive e2 (S3 object storage), when using a promotional price. Will have better speed, built-in file encryption, no resilience, no web front-end, non-existent support. From my VPS, getting 20 to 30MB/sec
    • another option is ServaRica Polar Bear (VPS with 2TB), which is still around 80% more expensive per TB. Was quite slow when I last tried (even the SSH prompt). Of course also means managing the VPS as not just storage

  • any chance of restock for 1tb epyc storage vps?

I managed to mount the storage box over SSHFS on both Windows and Debian 12. It seemed pretty straightforward aside from hassling with setting up the ssh key for authentication. Did I miss anything important along the way? I saw some people had trouble (though I didn’t do a permanent mount).

The network peering seems rather mediocre but I won’t officially complain for a €7/yr service. I get excellent speeds (100 MB/s) from EU locations like OVH servers, okay speed (20-30 MB/s) from Hivelocity NY and Tempest NY, and crap speeds (1-2 MB/s) from my home internet (near NYC). YMMV.

Thanks for the feedback. You should expect to see better speeds moving forwards. Both nodes see an average of 700 Mbps usage over the last day as many people push traffic into it.

What you are seeing is most likely worst case scenario.

Interesting. I shall try to copy data from a Hetzner Storage Box to this, using a Hetzner VPS (PAYG). All on the same network so should be fast

    Just for information:

From a Hetzner Storage Box (in Falkenstein, FSN1) to the ftp2 host, using rclone on a low spec Hetzner VPS also in Falkenstein FSN1 (CAX11 type), I am getting a speed of around 80MB/sec.

Therefore, slow speed is indeed to do with the network rather than the server/storage itself.

  • Yup, from the (non-storage) HostBrr DirectAdmin box that is also in Falkenstein I am able to get some 85MB/s, reliably, consistently.

    ~$ rsync -avx --info=progress2 1Gtestfile target:
    sending incremental file list
    1Gtestfile
      1,048,576,000 100% 85.57MB/s 0:00:11 (xfr 1,048,576,000 100% 85.40MB/s 0:00:11 (xfr#1, to-chk=0/1)

    sent 1,048,832,106 bytes received 35 bytes 72,333,251.10 bytes/sec
total size is 1,048,576,000 speedup is 1.00

Coupon seems to have expired for storage boxes.

  • Could you extend BFBOX for Cyber Monday?

I have a 1 TB Storage Box transfer available. If anyone is interested, please DM me. Otherwise, I will proceed with canceling the service for a refund due to a change in client requirements.

@labze - Great Service at this offer, +1 for provider but need to cancel or transfer due to my limitations. Could you please confirm if a refund is possible, as mentioned in the thread regarding the 7-day refund period?

Thanks but I just bought the 500GB version, FOMO

Due to popular demand, and the extra server added the BFBOX offer has been extended for the rest of the week or as long as stock lasts.

@labze , have the DA storage boxes been provisioned yet?

I ordered mine on 24th Nov and still haven't received it.

  • I tried using a third-party service to connect to this storage via SFTP, but after entering the wrong password a few times, the IP was blocked. The panel can only unlock the IP if accessed from the same browser's IP. Is there any way you can easily unblock a specific IP?

You can ticket them to whitelist your servers' IPs.

Thanks. just grabbed 1x 500, will grab 1 more if I like it. Client #10555

What's the ETA on provisioning? worried that some have been waiting more than 1 week :open_mouth:

  • @labze im tempting to buy more however, the speed for my location (malaysia/singapore) doesnt seems good. 100mbit/s down, 5 ~ 7 mbit/s up. currently on 1tb da storage. both http/ftp giving me this speed. im on 800/200 connection.

  • @cjoenic said: im on 800/200 connection

what about if you can use a vpn or cf warp? I'm in VN and my speeds to EU are always better over CF warp than just using my ISP's routing

thanks for the suggestion. it gives slightly different results. 140~150mbit down, 4mbit up. both http/s and ftp.

140mbit is already pretty good. cant get much better.

upload speed depends on a few things mainly your ISP and the VPN you are using.

Provisioning was done in a few hours for me (Direct Admin).

too bad. otherwise would've bought more. for now only SG region can fulfil my use case which can maxout my connection.

  • Bought 1tb storage box just for backup, paid 1year. At this price point my expectation were low.
Thanks @labze . Hope it work OK most of the time.

  • have nat storage with hostbrr before. let’s see if this one would do the job

I'll allow myself to blame Blesta for the poorly coded DirectAdmin module. Manually re-creating and activating all these orders is a pain in the ass, while there is also a larger than normal amount of support requests.

Feel free to open a ticket and it can be expedited.

Is this still the case that you are having to manually provision orders made at the beginning of last week? There are several posts after yours about orders not being filled yet but no response from you. I am in the same boat but I don't need to have mine expedited if you can confirm that there is indeed a backlog you are having to work through.

There's still some servers that I haven't gotten to activate. Do open a ticket to get taken care of faster in this case.
