EasyVM: $15/yr+ 2GB KVM VPS in US

    • Location: Dallas/New York/Ashburn

Random test IPs I found (since lg is down).
    Dallas: 209.151.125.6
    New York: 208.99.44.26
    Ashburn: 140.235.72.4

  • I was setting up my new servers and I encountered some weird af templates

One of them came with sshd_config with only 2 lines in there

There's another one that had pubkeyauthentication uncommented and set to no by default

Took me a few reinstalls to figure out what went wrong with my setup script

    Thanked by 2r3k lovelyserver

i just realised Virmach Tokyo deals are not competitive at all given Greencloudvps offers on xTom as well

I'm out of the loop why do ppl like Tokyo deals so much, is it same as most APAC offers - historically expensive hosting/bandwidth combined with exotic location?

Maybe the demand mostly come from Chinese where route from TOK <> CN is better than SG <> CN?

Makes sense, everytime I ping Tokyo from Australia my ping is like 200ms it's dogshit

yes and no. I've tried to bypass China firewall using both JP and SG VPS, but it seems JP gets more jittery than SG.

SG is a very well connected location in the region, but tokyo is an exotic intermediate POP as well and has low latency to the US if direct connection is iffy.

this can be seen by most providers closing SG as an APAC expansion.

other interesting POP are Osaka, Ho Chi Minh

ooc whats your standard best route for bypassing GFW, Hong Kong or something?

Hong Kong with "optimized"/"premium" routing (like AS9929/CMIN2/CN2)

No best route honestly, main reason I really do not want to expand to APAC. Impossible to get things shipped, high transit costs, and finding contracted remote hands is a nightmare due to high cost of living in the big cities.

Yeah the whole firewall thing seems very dynamic to say the least, glad I don't have to deal with anything like that in Australia yet

no best route as im not using the pro Chinese solution, so i rotate between SG/JP/HK for trial and error depending what i want to access.

and by HK i really mean leaseweb which i doubt has any premium connectivity towards mainland.

still useful whenever im in CN/TW/JP

    Just deploy wg-mesh + route bender 4000
It tries all my nodes across europe + apac, currently I don't have CN2 node so latency is higher but it always find a way and rotates it.

Understandable, if the connection is more consistent than any other standard routing

Added an overwrite entry to sshd_config.d for the pubkeyauthentication. However I doubt if there is anyone overwriting that.

Yup. Next best option would be Tokyo with IIJ/Softbank routing. Heard thats quite popular among MJJs, and a bit more affordable.

As a lowend VPSes user in Japan, YES!
Most providers in Japan ain't competitive with LET providers, I guess.

If everyone goes for the IIJ/Softbank route, I’m afraid the network load will be very high.
