What are the options for a distributed file system running SSH?
I want to pool some of disk space on my servers into a larger file system, that will automatically send files to where there is enough space for it. I think there a few systems which can do that, one of them being Andrew File System.
I prefer something more basic, that can even work on something like SSH and I think a few of them have been advertised here before.

SSH is a protocol, not a programming language or a piece of hardware, it can't run anything. What is wrong with AFS?

Also check out GlusterFS.

Or MooseFS..
Or Ceph ?
Ceph is a good choice as is Gluster. It depends whether you need a POSIX filesystem or just API access to the filestore.
This is a good read:
