VDS/storage VPS/dedi needed. Must be legal adult content ok.

I'm looking to purchase:

— VDS with at least 150GB disk. Adult content OK. In US. Less than $10/month.
(or a VPS if you're fine with me running ffmpeg a lot)

— VDS/dedi with at least 16TB disk. Adult content OK. In US. Around $50/month.
(or a VPS if you're fine with me running ffmpeg a lot)

— Storage VPS with 2TB disk. Adult content OK. In US. Around $6/month.

I'm here ready to purchase! Let's make it happen.

Comments

  • VDS providers in the US include @HostEONS and GreenCloud @NDTN . I don't know if they would offer you the storage or policy requirements you need. You should probably consider a dedicated server and splitting the resources in the 3 ways you describe.

As far as FFmpeg goes, if you are transcoding or doing something CPU-intensive, a VPS is just begging for problems.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I figured the megathread would have some VDS options, but I haven't found any.

The biggest snag with those HostEONS and GreenCloud packages is that they're grouped increases, so 150GB comes with more CPU/transfer/price/etc than I really need.

    You mean this?

    HostEons — $11.99 / month
    3 Ryzen Cores (dedicated)
    12288 MB RAM
    150 GB NVMe
    30720 GB/month bandwidth
    1.0 Gbps port speed
    IPv4 + IPv6
    Hosted in America

the annual price is $9 per month.

    Yeah.

VDS isn't easy to find because overselling VPS resources is much more profitable.

IMO, dedicated is probably the best solution for the customization you need. There are countless providers but just to get you started, some well regarded options with good deals are ReliableSite (@MrRadic), @Hivelocity , and @fiberstate . And there are many more good ones. I'm not sure how good you are with Linux virtualization, but using something like XCP-ng or Proxmox you may be able to roll-your-own VPS provider and get the system resources you need without too much cost.

    That's my 2¢.

I didn't realize there was a discount for annual payment, and in my brain, it was over that $10 price point.

Thanks for those suggestions, too. I normally keep my stuff separate, but it might make more sense to combine the needs.

    I appreciate your input.

I've had that one for about a year and been quite pleased with it.

  • @NetDynamics24 took my money for the server advertised above. They emailed a few hours later to ask how I wanted the server set up (O.S./RAID) then confirmed. About 3 hours later, they emailed again to say it was "out of stock" and did I want a refund or to wait for someone to possibly cancel theirs.

How did the website say 1 was in stock when I ordered, then 0 after I ordered, and yet the next day, it was "out of stock"?

I suggested they temporarily upgrade it to a model that their website has "14 available" and then when the ordered one became available, they could let me know and I'd move to it. Yes, one of those otherwise-sitting-idle servers cost nearly twice as much, but it was their error that they should fix and I said I would move to the original server later.

The response was some "we're losing money" and they were doing the one I ordered as advertising. Well, this is some pretty poor advertising for NetDynamics.

Rather than fix their error by temporarily moving me to one of the 14 servers they have sitting idle, they'd rather lose a customer. As I said to them, "I didn't say move to the new server permanently. I said "could that be set up now and then in a couple months when you have what I ordered available, you contact me and I move".

What you're doing is more like having 14 suites in a hotel empty, but turning away the customer who had a PAID reservation for a normal room rather than temporarily upgrading them to one of the suites due to your error."

    Not impressed, at all.

Apologies for it but someone else ordered it and paid before you. Our system proceeded with your order as it was in your cart already while in the meantime it was already out of stock. You have been instantly refunded.

  • So everyone is clear, @NetDynamics24 is saying that someone else ordered it and paid before me, but the Paypal payment was processed at "Sun, Dec 1, 3:18 PM" and the email about how I wanted it to be configured was sent on "Sun, Dec 1, 9:11 PM" nearly six hours later.

I replied earlier today "Mon, Dec 2, 9:12 AM" with how I wanted it to be configured and he replied a few minutes after that with "We proceed with your order." (the day after the order).

Then over two hours later than that, at "Mon, Dec 2, 11:56 AM" he wrote "Unfortunately this server is out of stock."

Yes, I got the refund, but it's not how it should've been handled. A customer-service focused company would've temporarily set me up on an otherwise-idle server and taken some responsibility for their mistake.

They own zero hardware and resell everything. They probably had better pricing on the server they "sold" you and would have lost money if they moved it to one of the 14 they had "in stock". Just avoid resellers in general, they're a cancer on the industry. I'd maybe talk to @advinservers, they actually own their hardware and have an e3 dedi that might work for you (assuming the adult content is something they allow).

  • @fluffernutter said: They own zero hardware and resell everything.

Thanks for that info. Now it makes more sense. Still not great handling of the situation among the various options that they could have chosen (like getting another server from whomever they're reselling / temporarily putting me on the other one / etc.)

  • @DataIdeas-Josh said: Also can do "Add A Drive" if you want to add like an external hdd.

I looked at the site, and it only lists adding SSD drives or upgrading the NVMe main drive. What would be the pricing specifics? I need at least at least 16TB. HDD is fine.

I like the idea of a faster Ryzen processor, but @fluffernutter suggested @advinservers and their "Storage 1" dedi at https://advinservers.com/dedicated has quite a lot of storage. The processor is a little slow for me combining needs into one, though.

    Any suggestions / offers?

    Good day,
Add-A-Drive is for those that want to ship in a drive.

But we can possibility work something out depending on size of drive. Send me a PM and we can get into details there.

Now that the Black Friday festivities have passed, I was wondering if any new providers were interested?
