Why are hybrid VPSes not popular?

A lot of storage VPSes are being sold
A lot of NVMe VPSes are being sold
But what's wrong with hybrids?
I'd like to have something like this
2 cores
2 gb ram
20 gb nvme
2 tb hdd

But always see red lights

1 core
1/2 gb ram
20 gb nvme
1 tb hdd
This one also would be nice

There are providers with hybrid offers on LET, this one is close to what you're looking for:

20 GB is rather small and probably doesn't justify higher price for the hybrid plan, so SSD space is usually bigger.

However I saw at least one provider with an offer like you mentioned (small flash disk). I didn't save the link though, so could be either a limited offer or not so interesting for some other reason.

We can do this in limited supply, we have a few nodes in WA only that were built with both NVMe primary storage and HDD secondary storage. It never really took off or was worth doing on a larger scale in my opinion but some capacity for this still exists.

We don't offer anything with 2TB HDD right now but can, so if that is what you need let me know.

  • Crunchbits has this in their regular line-up and would venture out on a limb to say it's their most popular product.

14 gigs is enough to comfortably have your OS AND your web/storage-related software with some room to spare.

I've seen other hosts here try this but only gave like 7 gigs of SSD/NVME and at that point, you're just paying for a glorified SFTP server that you have to maintain yourself. In that situation, it'd be better to just purchase SFTP storage from a provider.

  • Once told by a provider that more than 90% of customers don't know how to mount a drive - probably that explains quite a bit

@Francisco Bbuyvm offers this, you can get a slice as big as you want with SSD and then attach a slab.

    Hi,

    many offer this.

Make a thread in the requests section and i am sure you will get offers.

  • @RedSox
    My hybrid storage vps

  • i always want somthing like
    2cpu 4gb ram 50gb ssd + 1 to 4tb hdd
    singapore location would be great

  • I don't think it's as profitable for the hosters as it may seem

  • I think none of providers can predict what size of the HDD people need most for the hybrid plan.
For example if you create a plan with 20GB SSD only with cheap price, many people can buy it, even who didn't know exactly how much storage they need. But if you attach more 100GB HDD, the price is higher, at first you will lost customer who just want the cheap price to competitor, and you can't know how many people want 100GB, number of customers want 50GB or 200GB could be larger, etc... so almost provider sell it as additional add-on.
