Can’t speak for others but I’ve thrown Minio on my storage VPS, mostly for the purpose of playing around with the tool. Use it for personal backups, but also use Backblaze.

It's not as flexible.
It's just more straightforward to have your data directly accessible without adding another layer in front of it like object storage. Not all software/packages/use cases are object storage compatible.
