Hetzner Black Friday Price Increase Surprise
Just got this mail from Hetzner
Dear Mr <>
We are writing to inform you about important changes to the tariff structure of our Cloud servers (CCX and CPX lines) and our Load balancers at our US locations in Ashburn and Hillsboro.
What will change?
Starting on 1 December 2024, 01:00 am CET, we will begin charging new prices for newly-created Cloud servers and introduce new amounts for included traffic for Cloud Servers and Load balancers at the US locations in Ashburn (ASH) and Hillsboro (HIL). This also applies to existing Cloud servers and Load balancers that are switched to a different tariff using the “Rescale” function. For any existing Cloud servers and Load balancers you have at these locations, the new prices and the new amounts for included traffic will apply later, starting on 1 February 2025, 01:00 am CET. The price for traffic overage will remain unchanged in the new price structure.
What are the new prices and amounts of included traffic?
Below, you can see a list of the old and new prices and the included traffic.

Why are we making these changes?
With the new tariff structure, we want to make conditions for our customers around the world as fair as possible. To do that, we will calculate our prices based on local conditions in Europe, Singapore, and the USA. Until this change, customers who have used fewer resources have covered the costs, in a way, for other customers who have used much more resources. We want to make things more balanced. The new prices will give our customers the best possible price for the resources they use.

Comments
it's not a big price increase i think, but that traffic downgrade is BIG. i mean going from 20 to 1 lol.
It feels like prices have gone up multiple times now on Cloud, no?
Anyway, in their cloud I only use the CAX series so I guess no worries for me
Especially weird that they do this in the US.
US servers now getting same included bandwidth as APAC? Surely that can't reflect their costs at all.
There is OVH hillsboro and Vint hill for hillsboro and ashburn with more traffics but less functions.
Nice Black Friday deal!
Hetzner just invented the Reverse Black Friday.
great for their margins
Sort of, over the long term, but they've also been adding in newer instance types that are cheaper to make up for it. And these latest changes only affect US so longterm Cloud customers with servers in Europe won't be impacted.
Unlike e.g. Scaleway which used to be similar pricepoint to Hetzner but has seen the prices go up and up and up...
20x less bandwidth seems insane for US. Bandwidth surely can't be 20x cheaper in EU than US.
Increased price and downsized bandwidth
. Hetz tries to satisfy investors by milking massive user base. This will work for short period, but will hit hard after few years. OVH and other titans will absorb those with rage for Hetz.
Bad move Hetz, bad move indeed.
I'm still imagining that they might offer a promotion for free installation of dedicated servers
No promotion, and the price has increased
20TB traffic reduced to 1TB
I think I will leave hetzner
What happened?
If they decided to limit the bandwidth on the dedicated servers they may aswell close shop
Going from outgoing 20TB to 1TB (all documents seem to suggest incoming and internal are still unlimited) feels a bit like a cash grab from heavier users. Will ultimately probably turn out better for low to medium users but still feels like it's tarnishing some good will.
Wonder if we'll get anything cheaper & sustainable
They chose the right date to announce it
So I can get a Hetzner cloud server with 8GB ram and 3TB traffic, or an OVH dedicated server with faster CPU, 32GB ram and unlimited traffic for less money... Tough choice.
a "black friday deal"
Technically black friday is on the 29th. So December 1st is the Deutsch way of figuring out who cant figure out what month it is
I've always read about OVH and others but never used it. Is OVH reliable?
Nothing, netcup is a true friend of mine.
That is only til they aint
OVH is larger than Hetzner, and I've never had reliability issues with them. Support and pricing on the other hand is often lacking these days, since they're too large to care about their customers. If you can get a good deal on sale, and don't have any unusual issues that require support to actually make an effort to resolve, then you won't have a problem.
purchases Ferrari
gas prices increase
Government official: "Because people having been enjoying the Autobahn, we're happy to announce a country-wide speed limit of 15 mph, beginning immediately. Happy Black Friday!"
Yep, just noticed this. Genuinely wouldn't have expect both at once but I guess it's a good way to just get all the drama out of the way at once.
Ah, well - time to switch providers then. That is definitely a big price increase for me, considering that I use roughly 10TB of traffic per VM.
I mean I understand if it was just a price increase - thats okay every now and then, but to drop the resources provided in such a significant way - they have definitely lost my business.
Just blame on KS-A... Very difficult BF for other providers.
no
Time to launch our US location
