Is MassiveGRID legit?

I just saw MassiveGRID's Black Friday offer, and it seems too good to be true. They claim to have been in business for 21 years, but I couldn't find enough company data about their founding date on Google. I'm not sure how they're counting this. On top of that, the guy from MassiveGRID just joined in January of this year.

Their recent reviews on Trustpilot also don’t look very good: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/massivegrid.com

So, what’s the deal here? Are they legit, and how are their services?

  • Rug pull is being planned I assume, I have no solid proof either.

The site linked on their trust pilot seems down: Error connecting to database. 5 reviews as well, seems extremely fishy.

Yes, they're legitimate. They've been in business since atleast 2014. I have a server with them myself and it's been okay, but I would suggest just going with another provider. You'll (probably) find better deals this black friday. You'll also hear a decent amount of claims of outages within their thread, I can't backup any of these claims myself as I haven't been monitoring my server and it's mostly been idling so that's 100% something to look out for. I can confirm that the servers are oversold (24/7 share time) & have pretty slow i/o speeds as well.

  • Have a Server they are 1.000% legit and are doing me even extra service...
Perfectly fine and much better than most other trashy sellers here.
Server is fast and what I bought.

  • Legit? Up to now: depends on your definition, but yeah. It's a company, I know they've been around for some time, and I've had a VPS with them some time ago that I was happy with.

You seem to look on LET only for BF, because you call this a BF deal while it's ongoing since over a month. I know BF starts earlier every year, but 17th of October is still too early in my book.

At this moment my persional experience:

    • No IPv6. Shame. Could be coming early next year.
    • CPU: Some CPU steal on all 3 locations, US and UK a couple % on average, DE around 5%,
    • Disk: Low performance on all 3 locations
    • Network: US: Terrible. Average packet loss of between 5 to 10%, but yesterday evening measured over 5 hours it was over 80%. And that happened several times last couple of weeks. DE: Meh. In the last 7 days I've had 10 outages (unreachable for > 1 minute). UK: Bit better as other 2 but still packet loss quite regularly (average of 1% over 7 days).
    • They keep on selling while there are complaints. Every complaint they look at individually, as if you are the only one experiencing these issues. They use big words for their servers, but in the meanwhile don't seem to have proper monitoring in place so they can see themselves where issues arise.

Would I jump on this train again? At this moment I'd say no. In my book there is a "holy trinity" for a good provider: Good performance, Good Network, Good Service. When you want a good price, one of them could (not must, but could) drop behind, but not all three as it appears to be with this provider.

  • Yes for VPN it's not perfectly fast... and the vps is not the fastest. still... for the price it's fuuuuuckin insane! GOOD!

And the panel is trash, thats right.....unconvenient

  • For the $1 per month I'm paying, it makes a decent enough vpn node or tor bridge. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

  • Are they a scam? For me no, only ever had a random 3 mins of downtime. Are they oversold? In my opinion probably yes. People are having problems that seem to indicate this.
Also found out they are official partners with nextcloud https://nextcloud.com/partners/

Too early to tell. But so far I had no problems with my dirt cheap VPS with @MassiveGRID, it's quite reliable so far; the disk is really crappy but then for such a low price one can only ask for so much. All in all I like it a lot.

"too early to tell" because it's a 4-year deal, so the only major question one might reasonably have is whether they'll honour the deal the whole 4 years. But as @beermachine mentioned they are in business for (a bit over) 10 years.

  • It's been quite some time now. Have they improved? How's the VPS going nowadays? Any updates?

If you follow all the threads here on LET a out them I think you would conclude they are legitly low-end. Whether they will still be in business as long as the terms of some of the discount plans they've been selling here is anyone's guess.

  • Is MassiveGRID legit?

    answer: No
