Got one million dollar invoice from CC , it was fixed minutes later

I got a dedicated server from @ColoCrossing and to my surprise I got invoice for over a million dollar for it. It was fixed minutes later by themselves (No ticket was opened) .

The invoice number is same that is whitened out.

Still, it seems a bug in their billing system

You were lucky that you had exactly $1,000,000 because otherwise it would have been automatically withdrawn from you.

  • it's true....if yes, then it is a big lesson for everybody.

    I have tagged @ColoCrossing
They will not "spare" me if I put something like this that is not correct.

I have a credit card linked to the account, thankfully the credit limit of the card is just under $40k

They tell you that the money is frozen by their bank.
You need to upload documentation to prove where the funds come from.

  • Overall seems to be good deal for 12 months, it is less than 10 USD per month @dev_vps , Is it sold out? Where you found?

Maybe send them an invoice at USD 1 million for heart attack* compensation?

(*this would probably happen to me in seeing that kind of an invoice in my inbox...)

I mean kudos to them for reacting fast and correcting it on their own but their systems should have some automatic probability checks to have sth. like this not happening at all.

Thank you, @ColoCrossing and much appreciated

I could, but I am too lazy to follow the instructions when they tell me that, after auditing bank accounts, or wills, they found they owe me money...

  • I blame the hype of the cloud billing small amounts by so many concepts, so they were billing you in microdollars ;)

Work item for developers: "Please make sure next time we bill him 37K" :D

I would expect your credit card company's fraud department to flag that first. Not because of the high payment, but because it's with ColoCrossing.

I did actually have to call my CC company to approve the charge to ColoCrossing. Never had to do that for a host before.

  • Just called my credit card company and fixed the maximum automatic charge to $299, unless physical card is used.

Taking pro-active action, just in case.

    fyi @ColoCrossing

I'm going to call my card company and see if that's an option for me. That's a fantastic idea. Thank you.
