Asking for help 7950x3d/ 128GB ddr5 crashing
Hey guys,
I've issue with some of my servers that I've build it is crashing on idle, Ubuntu 22.04 , Debian 12 , Windows 10. We are thinking that is ram issue.
Config
7950x3d
128GB DDR5 Kingston Fury Beast 6000MHZ 4x32GB
1x 4TB NVME SAMSUNG 990 PRO
ASUS X670E-F Gaming Wifi
We've update bios to latest version, we've config ram to work on 3600mhz because it crash the whole motherboard when we put over 4400mhz.
Ai Overclock Tuner - Manual
Precision Boost Overdrive - Disable
What you think that is crashing the servers? i'll really appreciate if you can help me on this.

What you need to do is disable global c state in the bios Helped a lot with crashing. If it indeed is a ram problem, do a memory test. I’ve had both happening. Sometimes motherboard issue, cpu, and ram issue.
Server or PC?
We have implemented some codes and patches recently that virtually/in theory makes our nodes very stable with zero possible crashes.
It's a paid solution that requires access to the server.
What's the exact part number?
4 sticks of RAM is the problem. From what I've heard it is unlikely or very tricky to get 4xDDR5 working at high speeds. Swap for 2 modules of a larger capacity.
For a test, just remove 2 sticks and see if crashes continue, and then check with the other pair as well.
It is right there in the first post, ASUS X670E-F Gaming Wifi, and you are asking what? Are you sure you are qualified to offer "paid solutions"?
ddr5 ram-expert @Dasabo
There's a known issue with Zen4 cores in Linux. I'm not sure what all kernels it affects but check out https://tomshardware.com/software/linux/ryzen-7000-8000-random-reboot-virtualization-issues-fixed-in-last-minute-linux-6-12-patch
I had constant rebooting on Proxmox before update. Epyc 4004 CPU
iirc even with XMP/EXPO enabled on the higher end X670E boards (ex: X670E AORUS PRO X -- similar to the one you are using), 6000 Mhz is usually possible only with 2x sticks, while the moment you add 4x sticks, the speed does drop. The only work arounds are some specific memory sticks<>board combinations/batches/memory dies which seem to be able to hold up magically from what I see on reddit as well.
Using 2x sticks is the better (at least cheaper/easier) way out if you want to stick to higher frequency.
@Shakib can you share details about this patch pls?
How does it crash and how often?
I too wanted a Ryzen but decided to stick with Supermicro because of crap like this.
Yes, thats fact. With 4 Sticks only 3600mhz is supported, when you try to go higher, PC doesnt start or crash. I have same issue on 7800X3D.
And that only 3600mhz is supported with 4 sticks is official info on AMD website. Only fix is to use 2 Sticks.
We are running on 4x sticks 3600mhz, ram-3600mhz / power down to disable / c-state disable / pcb disable / psu idle control - typical current idle/ cpu pcie aspm disable
It is running for 10-15hours on idle and it crash , few servers crash few don't crash its hard to find solution , I'm running test on Debian 12 and Ubuntu 22.04.
so you have multiple servers of this same configuration crashing? or just one server that is crashing?
I've 50 of them, and running test's on them few of them crash few don't its hard to find right configuration, i'm testing all the time to find the right config right bios for stable running , hope anybody here in forum see this and is ready to help me with this 🙏
for me amd vga caused a reboot.
the driver was not installed properly or was installed incorrectly.
it works with an older version.
And
Bios Disable ASPM
did you try swapping ram from the crashing pc to a non crashing pc and vice versa and checking that?
i think you can change the motherboard to MSI x670e carbon or x870e carbon,in the bilibili(A video platform),someone can use 9950x with carbon to get 192Gb 6400Mhz,7950x 192Gb 6000Mhz.
Guys just wanted to let you know that issue was on firmware of nvme also we made some changes on kernel of linux to disable APST and now is very stable.
