Let's go and hype for a GA, resource GA? swag GA? or something even better?

Looking for merch now. It's high time, Ig!

Then HYPE it, i guess the chef is going to make a comeback anytime now.

Are we sure. Got the Chef on chat support now. Time to make requests

generate more, the api is on a racknerd server, might be able to convince chef for a massive upgrade this year...
couldnt convince for a backpack yesterday, upgrades might work lmao

I like this! I had not noticed you had an image generator in your signature. How much of this runs on your racknerd server? Are you actually generating the images there as well or are you sending a request out to an external site to generate the image? I am not to familar as to how many ai based image generation things there are out there that you can simply run on your own servers

    Nahh
My server just saves the requests from deepai and also serves them

The generation is done by deepai, i pay (not much) for every picture generated

My api is made so you HAVE TO include the word racknerd but im pretty sure you csk generate whatever you want and put the text in the back and the AI wont remeber the text

Plus you can generate nsfw if you wanted

All doors open, as long as it includes "racknerd"
I hope people dont abuse it too much

Ah you pay slightly for every image generated. You are a brave soul.. I did refresh a couple trying to get something neat. I think that is good to know now though. I have stopped generating any more images for now.

Using elementaryOS for the main and have bunch of weird distro testing stuff lying around in another ssd.

Nice! How do you like elementaryOS's custom desktop environment?

So far so good, the user interface was the only thing that intrigued me to try it out and here we are i am sticking to it i just like it tbh. Also have you heard of zorin?

BTW, @TrK have you jailbroken your iPad?

I am not into jail breaking my devices, for security reasons. I even don't root my android since last 4 years.

I used to like a decade ago. Not after I moved to Pixel. Might root only for the purpose of running Graphene.

Just don't see any value to it now, was kinda interesting and with all the fuss about magisk and what not, after that it just died down.

But, Graphene's different, from what I've heard. It does take the fun out of the phone if you use it mainly as a media consumption device. But, if you are privacy and security-centric, Graphene is the OS to have. Edward Snowden recommended it a few years ago.

isn't it just another AOSP fork i have seen too many tbh all promising this and that, but the security part of any AOSP fork is a joke unless you stopped using Android altogether, the only reason my main device is apple and secondary is android is due to this. Android isn't that secure imo and even though we know it we just can't have google disclose everything.

No, GrapheneOS is not "just another AOSP fork". Here is a great YouTube video (using a Privacy Front-end) if you want to have a better in-depth explaination of what GrapheneOS really is - I evolved from CopperheadOS, which was never an AOSP fork.

    https://invidious.nerdvpn.de/watch?v=WkQ_OCzuLNg

If my memory serves me right copperhead was also AOSP powered OS with some privacy tweaks and graphene made it to later stage with improvements over the time. But i feel like about it is just plainly if only if ubuntu touch could have gotten that much support and i might have started using that instead of any AOSP powered rom. Be it graphene or any other.

There are plenty of Linux-based phone OS, like PostmarketOS, Mobian, and as you mentioned Ubuntu Touch.

GrapheneOS provides you will "full disk encryption" using hardware and not just software like all the other phones out there today.

Full disk encryption isn't only available to graphene, it was introduced with google pixel 5(ig), and many other AOSP based roms also have the same disk encryption feature enabled cause the hardware was supported, it's kinda same a tpm no one knew untill MS forced it on everyone's head with bullet.

As I said to @noob404 above: "The Pixel phones are the only phones with the Titan M security chip which enables it to have that hardware device encryption - all other phones claiming encryption only do so on the sofware level. "

I only trust full disk encryption on devices & computers which I install the OS on - otherwise it's not to be trusted.

Never had the time to look into encryption. Is it really worth it, unless your phone/device has some hyper-confidential info?

Everyone has a different "threat model" and it all depends on what yours is, i.e. what adversaries are you protecting yourself and your data from?

Again makes sense. But, since the whole world is interconnected now, you can't see a potential adversary. So, I guess it's better to put some time into encryption. Prevention better than cure.

Imagine having your phone stolen without encryption and then the thief can do whatever he wants with your phone contact list or any other data on your phone such a Banking App, which most banks continue to move people towards using...

Yah. You got my attention and I am pretty concerned now. Maybe, time to look into it right away.

Same would apply to a laptop too

BitLocker enough for debloated Windows or do you recommend something else?

I would recommend not to use Windows and to instead setup & use LUKS on Linux. Lots of distros have the feature to select during the install process.

Planning to move to Linux completely very soon. The only hindrance is the though of using Photoshop and Premiere on Wine.

If you have a beefy enough system, you could setup a Windows virtual machine just for those applications.

Yah, that'd be more convenient, I guess. Been thinking of making the move for almost an year now. Just the thought of moving everything has stopped me. I don't deal very well with change initially.

In October 2025, Microsoft will EOL Windows 10 which will force people onto Windows 11 (or to potentially switch to Linux), which has the Recall feature enabled. If you don't know about Windows Recall, then this is good article about that https://news.itsfoss.com/microsoft-windows-recall/

if my game worked on linux i would have switched 5 years ago

That is probably the only thing that is keeping me off of linux as well. Most games just do not run well there. Some drivers can also be a bit wonky too.. For examples some web cams or usb microphones or controllers do not work as well. It seems a lot of that would improve too though if games made a bigger migration to linux land

But, Proton has come a long way and I think it really comes down to the drivers available for your GPU. Most GPUs still have to depend on OS Mesa drivers, which is great, but, would definitely be great to have manufacturer support, for eg.- AMDGPU-Pro for all hardware.

MOST INTENSE BLACK FRIDAY 2024 THREAD ON LET -- LET'S GOOOO!

Man, I had a mini meltdown here thinking I missed another GA!

Ok glad I was not the only one. I freaked out a bit there too and thought I had missed something. Even after noticing it was an image I was thinking Dustin was upping his game and starting to post the giveaways as 100% image based posts now too. It took me far to long to realize that was just a quote/capture of the giveaway that we had yesterday

Tried crita or whatever it's name is, it looks promising and for premiere ig there won't anything good for linux anytime soon.

    This one - https://krita.org/en/
BTW, I don't need any advanced features on Photoshop or Premiere Pro. Just the very basic features. Any recommendations?

For photoshop krita and gimp will do, but for premier, it's hard, i know there is shotcut and davinci resolve but there will be some drawback you gotta try it and see for yourself.

I have been using gimp but i am not an artist or photoshop expert by any means. It has been enough for whatever random photo editing I have wanted to do on my own. I heard photoshop has some awesome "AI" based stuff in it now though to touch up images. Similar to what phones can do now too though so it is not a huge loss not having photoshop. I.e. remove people or things from photos and refill the space

Guess it will work for me perfectly as a PS replacement.

In the LowEndTalk thread you referenced, the "Chef" appears to be a playful term for someone or something that dramatically enhances the excitement of RackNerd's Black Friday event. Discussions suggest that the "Chef" might represent a figure or contributor (possibly FrankZ or Dustin) who "cooks up" surprise giveaways or extraordinary deals, akin to how a chef prepares special dishes. This nickname emphasizes the anticipation and enthusiasm surrounding these flash sales and giveaways, which are a hallmark of RackNerd's event on the forum

Not quite! Void Linux is a rolling release distribution built from scratch (except for the kernel, of course), and it's even more stable than Arch Linux.

@chitree said: I'm using Arch Linux and Artix Linux on my laptops and desktops, but I don't recommend these unless you enjoy the command line. Linux Mint is a great distro which I do recommend to others.

What distro are you using now?

Using elementaryOS for the main and have bunch of weird distro testing stuff lying around in another ssd.

Nice! How do you like elementaryOS's custom desktop environment?

So far so good, the user interface was the only thing that intrigued me to try it out and here we are i am sticking to it i just like it tbh. Also have you heard of zorin?

I have heard of Zorin, but have never tried it. I prefer running tiling windows managers and really love the Arch User Repository, so I stick to using Arch-based distros daily.

Sounds good, i gonna try zorin in couple of days to see if it can fit with my SSD.

    Does not matter
Generate as much as you like

I pay $2 for 1k images, feel free to generate few

On a quick break. Here's a rare picture of the RackNerd Chef with his wireless hands:-

Wireless limbs is a future I don't want to see...

Just think, then you do not even have to leave your seat to grab something. You can just pilot your limb to run to the kitchen and garb you your coffee, some snacks, or whatever else you need. Maybe it would not be so bad after all.

Also I hope the fact that Chef's plate is empty is not a vision of what the future looks like for give aways today! Chef's plate should be full of food and riches for all

Just think, an attacker can then hack your wireless limb to kill you & then it all just looks like a manufacturer defect so no investigation occurs. Dark but true.

Hmm that is a good poiint. Maybe I am not so fond of them after all. I tend to look at the bright side of things but I could see someone abusing it to make an army of flying limbs that could swarm people including its own owners. Ok I revoke my pervious views. It is just not worth it to have wireless limbs

Due to my line of work, I always first view how technology can be abused

A sign of quality assurance, :joy:
