Looking for Solana Validator Capable Server on East Coast

evanwevanw Member
edited November 2024 in Requests

Hello,

I am looking to start a Solana validator node and need to meet the minimum hardware requirements below to do so:

CPU

  • 2.8GHz base clock speed, or faster
  • SHA extensions instruction support
  • AMD Gen 3 or newer
  • Intel Ice Lake or newer
  • Higher clock speed is preferable over more cores
  • AVX2 instruction support (to use official release binaries, self-compile otherwise)
  • Support for AVX512f is helpful
  • 16 cores / 32 threads, or more

RAM
-Error Correction Code (ECC) memory is suggested
-Motherboard with 512GB capacity suggested
- 512 GB or more

Disk

  • PCIe Gen3 x4 NVME SSD, or better, on each of:
  • Accounts: 500GB, or larger. High TBW (Total Bytes Written)
  • Ledger: 1TB or larger. High TBW suggested
  • Snapshots: 250GB or larger. High TBW suggested
  • OS: (Optional) 500GB, or larger. SATA OK

The OS may be installed on the ledger disk, though testing has shown better performance with the ledger on its own disk

Accounts and ledger can be stored on the same disk, however due to high IOPS, this is not recommended

Accounts and ledger should not be stored on the same disk

Please message me with a quote/specs if you are able to provide this. Thanks!

  • I believe @PureVoltage can provide some servers for Solana.

I think the official hardware recommendations are pretty much outdated. It's hard to stay synced with the network with those specs. Transactions per second have went through the roof in the last week or so.

Thanks, I definitely plan on exceeding those minimum requirements substantially if possible, just wanted to put them there as reference.

@AlbaHost has configs with over 1 TB of RAM. Not entirely sure if they're fine with Solana validator nodes, but you can quickly ask :) (as per their ToS, only crypto mining is forbidden) (Not in the US though :()
    affiliated link | non-affiliated.

Tagging a few more providers that can maybe help you out, but can't see public configs with over 512 GB RAM :)
@Hosteroid @VPSSLIM (Not in the US) @AlexBarakov (Not in the US) @alwyzon (Not in the US), @vsys_host (Seattle)

(not 100% sure all of them are fine with Solana nodes, just FYI)

    Good luck :)

Yes, we have plenty of 7443P's which are not quite as good these days for it and some much better AMD 9347F's which work quite well.

For starters anything below 3.0 GHz single core base clock speed won't cut it. Intel won't work, only the very recent Epycs and Threadrippers. Expect the nvme's to get hammered all the time. You would get better performance with using a ramdisk based system, that is both ledger and accounts stored in system memory. This necessitates 2TB of RAM or more.

Thanks for the recommendation, but we don't allow crypto validators.
